use no adware personal edition, spybot search and destroy, microsoft anti spyware and the latest edition of avg. make sure all of these have the latest updates then run them all and your system will be free from spyware and virsuses. run all of these at least once a week and you should be ok and make sure you run windows update frequently as well...

boot into safe mode (hit f8 before windows starts to load) and run your anti spy/adware programs

go to the webuser.co.uk forum, they have experts who will give you free programs to download and talk you through how to delete spyware, worked for me.

Have you tried a combination of the following freeware?
    Ad-Aware SE Personal (Lavasoft)
    SpyBot Search and Destory

Both can be downloaded from C-NET or through an MS update link.

Hitman pro does all of the above and more, with the exception of HiJack This

On the outset though, it sounds like you'll have to use HiJack This.
