Packard Bell P3. Windows 98 was installed on it but everytime it booted it would immediatly reboot. This didn't happen with safe mode. I reimaged it with a windows 98 image and the exact same thing is happening. I changed the network card but haven't gotten around to remiving the modem. Any ideas?

Sounds like a driver is causing the problems did you install any new devices lately?

It might help if you detail the timeline and symptoms a bit more...

The computer was donated to a school. Just arrived into the lab, I don't know any details. When I turned it on it rebooted. Safe mode works. I thought the easiest way to solve it would be to image the drive with the image for all the computers. Problem persists.

I thought it might be heat but it doesn't reboot in safe mode. It will be a real pain in the ass if one of the drivers that ships with windows is causing the problem.

    Turn off reboot on crash.

Control Panel - System - Advanced - Startup and Recovery - Automatically Restart

Or something like that. That's from XP but I think it's similar in 98.

    Try booting with bootlog.txt

Then have a look at it in dos.

In the bootlog you'll see the drivers being loaded one by one.

That should show ya what driver is causing the problem.

9 times out of ten its gonna be the network driver.

Otherwise try booting in safe mode and removing all network settings.

    then rebooting
