Overseas for now. Far to the west. Only get Monday's off. People like their weekends and some of us entertain them on Sundays (Theatre).

been in since 7am... ****ers don't even pay extra for it:mad:

to top it off, i'll be working nights next weekend, then this shift again the following weekend. so that's 3 weekends in a row destroyed.

and the managment wonder why the staff turnover rate is so high...:p

Thought they have to pay extra for Sundays?

Thats some dose with the multiple weekends tman. No sessions for you me boy!

there's some loophole that the company have managed to use, i spent a couple of hours trawling through oasis.gov.ie a few months back, seems that they don't have to pay extra:(
the stingy bastids only started paying extra for nights back in october!

kind of sickened that i'll be missing out on sessions alright, think it's a mate's birthday next weekend but i'll end up having to leave for work just as things are getting started. (chances are it'll still be going by the time i finish work at 7am :D) thankfully there's gonna be a big sesh in Cork the next weekend i have off... i'd say i'll be gagging to go on a wild one by then

Working sundays is the best - half the work for twice the pay.

I agree that sunday work involves v little actual work (for me anyway)

But Id still rather be lying in bed, thinking about getting up, getting some papers, making a fry and setting up for a lazy day of watching sport/reading said papers.

Alternatively be still partying/dying of a hangover

I only work part-time, so I work Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

Today I'm workin 2-6pm, which is handy enough :) I don't mind working on Sunday cos I need the money, and the work isn't too bad.

or give a day in lieu, like my skinflint employers:p
they only give standard wages for extra days worked as well, which i get raped for tax on.

Hey can someone on shift help me. I've only just started and wont get paid for another 2 weeks but people I've talked to tell me that I get a shift allowance that means I earn a good bit more for the hours I work. Problem is a friend of mine who worked shift last summer told me that doesn't apply unless you are working during the night. Which is it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,620 ✭✭✭Roen

Nope I have been working two days a week for the last five years (with one year off to travel through Africa).
I work Sat and Sun only, two 12 hour shifts. Never gonna make it rich but I get by, besides there's more important things than money.....if only I could make myself believe that:rolleyes:

    working tonight - like every weekend 10pm - 7am.
And then the coup de grace tomorrow (mon) when i have to be back in work at 5pm - 5am.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

I was in work 12-6 today... I've been in pretty much every Sunday since I started my current job. I'm convinced all the crazy or stupid people come out on Sundays.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 195 ✭✭nedoo

On since three. Out the last two nights so I could be right at home now, doing nothing but I am here in bits and doing nothing. I dont get any extra pay for Sundays as I have signed for a salary that Sunday pay is already included. I am however due to get every second sunday off, which is great as I have worked the last four.
I think its time to go to the roof and have the cure! Is it cold outside?

It depends on the employer. They are not legally obliged to pay an allowance for shift work (although most probably do). They are only obliged to pay extra (usually double) for working on public holidays.

PS If I work on the night when the clocks go back one hour I do not get extra pay for working that extra hour. My employer argues that I could just as easily be rostered on the night when the clocks go forward and therefore will get an extra hour's pay for nothing. :)
