Does your barber do this?

I was getting the hair cut in Dublin 5 today. Local barber is very good.

Anyway at the end of the hair cut, he shaved the back of my neck with one of those old fashioned razor blades. Nothing strange you say.

But he used the same razor on three people before me in the queue. I realise barbers sterilise combs and brushs but this razor wasn't even wiped between customers.

I like this barber and its where I always go to get to get " da 2 blade all over" but is it normal to use a razor blade on multiple people without so much as a wipe let alone a sterilization?

If it wasn't dunked between customers I like to think I would have made a fuss. Thats what I like to think. What would have happened is that I would have sat there, trying to think of what to say, would not have said anything, and would have posted on boards about it later. Ah well.

edit: sorry if that sounds sarcastic, i don't mean it to. basically, I would have done what you did, but I wouldn't have been happy about it either.

Thanks caimin. The problem is I don't know if this is acceptable or not. I would have liked to said something but I wasn't sure if all barbers do this. I doubt it though.

Am just looking for any advice.

yeah I know what you mean, you're afraid to make a fuss over what might be nothing. But I've never seen a barber do that - normally they have three or four razors in a jar of disinfectant or use disposable blades. Out of interest, would you go back? I wouldn't have said anything but I wouldn't go back. Which would annoy me cause I like going back to the same barbers!!

Personally i think your making a big deal out of nothing whats the harm. But if you dont like it and it makes you feel awkward or whatever i think you have every right just to say it to the man to give it a quick rinse or whatever and im sure he wont mind at all.

It would put me off, Imagine if a tiny drop of the guy befores blood came into contact with your own, and he had HIV/Aids  You could catch it! Seriously if he isn't sterilizing it then it is a major no no and probably in breach of health and safety regulations plus the barber code of conduct if there is one.

    Too right, too right

There is a health regulations for barbers, as there is for any occupation for that matter

I would not be happy about that anyway if that was to happen to me

They sterilise surgical instruments for a reason. A razor is no different as it can cut and cross-contaminate peoples' blood and should be sterilised between every use. I've never seen a barber not at least dunk it in 'Barbicide'.

I'd defo make a fuss! I remember reading a while back that next to syringes and needles, razors are the second highest cause of HIV. So eh, give your muppet barber a slap next time.
