I'm sure some people on here myself included have had bad dealings with the Garda before, this is a good place to tell if you have had a bad experience with them.

Some people would have you believe the Gardai are whiter than white when in fact that couldn't be further from the truth, the Frank McBrearty case is only one of many that springs to mind.

I think he meant he closed his browser page...

I've had a few run-ins over the decades but whining about it on someone's website, who can't even spell guardian probably isn't going to achieve much.
    Got? Gotten, surely.
Bad spelling/grammar on any website just turns me off it straight away; if they want to be taken seriously, then take the time to look serious.

Telling your local up and coming TD when (s)he calls round the doors, that you want a police ombudsman with some proper powers, just might change things for the better.
Please forward us anything you have on the Gardai: photos, names, addresses, radio frequencies, car registrations,

They make a disclaimer about illegality further down the page, but information gathering of that nature could be construed as intelligence gathering where I live, and probably rightly so...

    D- ; Must try harder.

Obviously we will be operating within the parameters of internet laws.

    ROFL
We will require your details or at least a phone number to authenticate details.

Wow, that'll really ensure the truth is published! Such in depth research! I for one am glad this grauniads of justice will be watching out for us!

Gardawatch is in no way affiliated to any political grouping or terrorist organisation
Is this supposed to be serious, or is it just some kind of terrible pisstake?

    Parameters of internet law

Sheer hilarity aside, the usage of parameter in various media sources here, over the years, pisses me the hell off.
Parameters are a maths term, nothing more.
Usage Note: The term parameter, which originates in mathematics, has a number of specific meanings in fields such as astronomy, electricity, crystallography, and statistics. Perhaps because of its ring of technical authority, it has been used more generally in recent years to refer to any factor that determines a range of variations and especially to a factor that restricts what can result from a process or policy. In this use it often comes close to meaning "a limit or boundary." Some of these new uses have a clear connection to the technical senses of the word. For example, the provisions of a zoning ordinance that limit the height or density of new construction can be reasonably likened to mathematical parameters that establish the limits of other variables. Therefore one can say The zoning commission announced new planning parameters for the historic Lamping district of the city. But other uses go one step further and treat parameter as a high-toned synonym for characteristic. Eighty percent of Panelists reject this use of parameter in the example The Judeo-Christian ethic is one of the important parameters of Western culture.·Some of the difficulties with the nontechnical use of parameter appear to arise from its resemblance to the word perimeter, with which it shares the sense "limit," though the precise meanings of the two words differ. This confusion probably explains the use of parameter in a sentence such as U.S. forces report that the parameters of the mine area in the Gulf are fairly well established, where the word perimeter would have expressed the intended sense more exactly. This example of a use of parameter was unacceptable to 61 percent of the Usage Panel.

I get annoyed over very trivial things.
Getting arrested for being drunk is one of them :v:

    Every story has two sides.
Hardly the place for this - go see the new Garda Ombudsman Commission.

Oh let me guess a few drunken scumbags got the bollox knocked out of them by the Gardai for doing nothing. So one of them steals a Laptop and sets up this website.

Gardai knocking the bollox or harassing scumbags isnt wrong, its called a pre-emptive strike.

I have a feeling that McDowell and his friends will move fast to close it down. They have a hell of a lot of cash and I am sure that geocities will pull the site when they receive the writ.

Garda Ombudsman? Don't make me laugh.

Please forward us anything you have on the Gardai: photos, names, addresses, radio frequencies, car registrations, crimes committed by individual Gardai, drunk driving, second jobs(nicksers), back-handers etc etc etc.

That could be construed as information that could compromise the security of the state. I am surprised that Geocities has taken it down!

This is the first step in creating an outlet were the ordinary people of Ireland can have their say when it comes to the Gardai. The gaurdians of the peace have literally got away with murder and its time this police force is exposed for what it is.

We dont seek revenge for wrongdoings by the force but we are here to expose misconduct, corruption and their unprofessional approach to many aspects of policing in Ireland.

Gardawatch is in no way affiliated to any political grouping or terrorist organisation and we are in no way compiling intelligence dossiers on the Gardai as has been claimed by the Dept of Justice and the Garda Press Office.

Due to the sheer volume of material we have compiled it could be some time before the full site is up and running.
Not political or terrorist so criminal ?
    Well the grammer is anyway.

Monitoring Police Radio Traffic is an offence in this country so asking for frequencies is a bit rich. Also they even if you could accept that it was above board, I'm sure the Data Protection Act would prohibit retention of the data, and besides there is the issue of how the will store it such that the info won't be compromised or leaked.

    Whose internet laws ?
Since geocities is a US site those guys could get two years for that annoying website. Reckon the guards could just pick them up and then release them, in Shannon, about 10 minutes before a CIA charter is due to take off, westbound.

    Mike.

In the context the guy uses it in, I'd disagree. I know both are correct past participles

The Gaurdians[sic] have literally got away with murder

The Gaurdians[sic] have literally gotten away with murder

    Now if it'd have been in the context;

The Gaurdians[sic] literally got away with murder in the past or similar then, then fine.

I wouldn't either say or use "I forgotten" or "I have forgot".

That's my take on it anyway.
    Sorry about OT...

Course not, that would'nt suit the ajenda.

Surely if you're involved in a situation that requires a garda backhander it would be in your interests to keep it quiet?

Yes, I counted 18 mistakes of various kinds in the first three sentences of the link. How could anyone take this seriously? I get the impression that the creator is a bit of a cretin.
