Ok Ill try explain this as best I can.

This seems complicated, but its easy when you get used to it.

    To Back under the minimum

To use an example, Lets say you want to back a horse that has a price of 10.0 using €1:

    1. Click on the horse as normal

    2. In the 'Your Odds' box, change the odds to something ridicilous that wont get matched like 80 or something.

    3. In the stake box, enter €4 as normal, and submit the bet (it wont get matched)

    4. You will have an unmatched bet. Next, go to the stake box, and change the stake to €5, and submit the bet.
You will now be faced with 2 bets. one for €4 and one for €1

    5. Delete the €4 bet, change the odds in the €1 bet to 10.0 and submit it.

Dont get mixed up when laying!!!

It is similar, but the vital difference is in the odds.

So for laying under the minimum:

Lets say a horse is 10, and you want to lay using €1

    1. Click on the horse as normal

    2. In the 'Your Odds' box, change the odds to something ridicilous that wont get matched like 1.01 or something.

    Hope this helps

Thanks Wayne, we'll stick this for a while.

We're a small enough forum here so I don't think we'll show up on any radars.

Good post, the one thing I didn't like about betfair was that you had to bet a miniumum bet was €4, this makes it a lot better.

I heard that after a while you MAY get an e mail asking you to stop, but I have placed 700+ lays doing this, and so far I've heard nothing.

May I ask: Do you use a laying system or are you laying based on form predictions?

I'm not sure about making this sticky...I'd be in favour of removing it.

Sorry, but IMHO posting this here is asking them to close it down.
It is an essential workaround for small layers and for backing big outsiders and I'd hate to lose it.

The traffic on this forum is minimal, and believe me it's pretty well known info anyway. I said I'm gonna sticky it for a while because, as per discussion this week, there are a few boards lads only getting started with betfair and it will help them greatly.

    Ah yea of course.

I use it a lot, I enjoy being able to have a bit of fun trading for small amounts and I'm just scared it will go. the €1.50 on golden cross at 360 a couple of years ago is a particularly sweet memory :D

I never got an email from them and I've been doing it for a few years now. I doubt they would really close it down, it would be counter productive for them as the competition would probably welcome us with open arms.

You can be sure of that. Welcome to our part of the forum by the way.

Betfair will never do anything about this as it would take a major redesign of their entire software. The reason it works is because Betfair operate a queing system for unmatched bets, so if you bet €4 then add another €1 they have to be treated as two seperate bets for the purposes of being matched.

Hi finn, I lay to a system that I wrote myself, also I have a suscription to a laying service.

I only method lay the odd time.

Betdaq have a minimum of 50c.which I think is more like it.
The bet below minimum on betfair is very fiddly . Don't try it in-running over 5f.On another forum someone said gruss scripts enables below minimum bets automatically.Haven't tried it yet.
I'm gonna close my euro account and open a sterling one.Unfair that their minimum is equivalent to less than e3.
Ibelieve some bookies allow online bets of a few cents/pence.

Most online bookmakers let you bet with cents, but betfair has far better prices, and the ability to lay.

I did not know that there was a 50c min. on betdaq, thanks :) Only thing though, the liquidity is not as good.
