It looks as Gordon Brown has been a big looser on this one.

    I think Blair is safer.

David Cameron did not do well at all.

But I feel that he is winning over middle England.

I wouldn't read too much into by-elections, tbh. Brown is still a dead cert to replace Blair, and while he's undoubtedly not as charismatic, his reputation hasn't been tarnished by the Iraq war fiasco and he is therefore a safer bet for the next election. Hilary 'I'm not a Bennite' Benn would clearly be the best choice as their next leader, but sadly that won't happen.

As for the Tories, Scotland is a bit of a lost cause for them anyway.

    Ruling parties rarely win by-elections.

As for Cameron, I don't really know if he call pull an election win off. Yes he's young, but he's not as charasmatic as Blair was in 1997.
