Stream DivX files to your 360 easily

    For those of you with Windows Media Centre, someone's finally released a good solution to the problem of DivX codecs. Download this and you can now play DivX files through the xbox 360 interface.

    How it works in the background is kind of awkward, and is how I've been doing it manually for a while by creating a streaming file, but the interface completely hides everything and playing divx files is as easy as playing WMVs. Very very useful tool.

    Excellent. I've had to waste time converting files before I could use them. This will come in handy.

    cool... gave it a whirl and it work only ok.... video was slightly skippy but the specs on the media center pc i have might influence on that... but i did have to fiddle a bit to get it working...

    i have two pc's, one with media center, and the other one with xp prof. i link network shared folders with media center, and when i tried the transcode a divX didnt work. so i guess just make sure that diX files are stored on your media center pc and not just on the network....

    good tool tho if u manage to get it not skipping.... i prob just need a new pc! ;) scrimp and save time for danbhala...

    Didn't skip in the slightest for me, in fact it was only using 50% CPU so I was able to browse at the same time if I wanted :) Quality seems perfect too.

    Thats on an Athlon 64 3500+ so fairly high spec processor, actually proving useful for once!

    Quick question. Do the DivX files need to be downloaded to your hardrive or can you play them from a DVD? I haven't used any of these features yet and so spend a lot of time converting!!!!

    As far as I can tell media centre will only let you share fixed drives, which means no DVD. There could be an option I'm missing though.

    I spent a few hours on Saturday trying to get this to work but without luck. I think I'm having codec problems because it keeps timing out when I try to stream. I raised the timeout value in the registry but still nothing. When I run it in debug mode, it seems windows media 9 is generating an exception. I read on a few other boards that this is usually codec related. The only codecs I've installed are divx6.1 and AC3filter so I don't know what is causing the problem. :mad:

    The interface just gives the usual message Transcode exception: Timeout while waiting ...

    When I run the transcode service from the command line it mentions that windows media encoder threw an exception. I'll have to check it again tonight to get the exact exception message.

    Actual exception that is thrown when I run it from the command line is :

    *ERR* Windows Media Encoder threw an exception: System.Runme.InteropServices.COMException (0x80004005): WMEncoder.PrepareToEncode() fail
    .
    at Transcode360.MceServer.StreamFile()

    So I'm not too sure what's causing this.
