Mine's La Marseillaise purely because of it's wonderful rousing nature-it's sure to intimidate us tomorrow :( . Any others?

Almost as the antithesis of "national" anthems, The Internationale, anthem of the Soviet Union from 1917-1944, replaced by the Hymn that lasts to this day (and would be my second choice).

    in no particular order:

    France - La Marseillaise
    http://www.sendspace.com/file/23fy68

Current Russian Anthem is the same as below except for changed lyrics.

European Union - Ode To Joy (more exciting with German lyrics!)

    Ours.

Mind you, it's about as anti-English a song as you can get!

    Irelands Call! woo etc!

Na just kidding. It's got to be La Marseillaise for myself (and I guess for most people). If it isn't then you've probably never seen Casablanca.

Jobrovia - a la Billy Connolly

"We come from Jibrovia and we don't give a sh1t..."

Failing that, Amhran na bFiann. I'm in France so today is gonna be rough.

No, that's a tune by Handel called "Zadok the Priest" and was the source of the original God Save the King.

I actually like the Azerbaijani anthem, it sounds suitably dark and evil :)

Amhrán na bhFiann's a really good anthem too, it's got plenty of tune to it and it's fairly rousing. Its a shame most people don't know the words...

was Ode To Joy actually officially made the European one?

the french one, irelands call, the american one, and amhran na bhfiann.

i was at an ice hockey match in chicago a few weeks ago and they sang the american one - it was pretty cool seeing everyone belt it out... in comparison, was in landsdown last saturday and i think i was the only one singing!

thats funny that this thread was posted cos i was out last night with a group of french people, and one of the girls wrote out the lyrics to Irelands Call as I forgot the third verse, (she knew it off by heart, does that make me look bad??)and La Marseillaise, ..I do favour those two in particular and of course our fair Amhran na bhFiann! So at the end of the night herself and me singing Irelands Call and La Marseillaise at the top of our voices, gaining us a few strange looks!! Not so in the mood for singing them today :( college will be fun on monday..Not

    Amhrán Na bhFiann

When I hear my own national I feel so proud and think of the history behind the wee island that we live on. In my house that national anthem was a big thing when my grandfather was alive, where he would hush everyone down and make sure people respected to what we listen to. I carry on from where he left off and there is a inner feeling that I can’t describe every time the national anthem is played!

Really? I think it's muck. Doesn't even sound Irish.

We should have God Save Ireland as our anthem.

Tbh, when I hear the Irish anthem, I picture some woman and her child dancing around in a corn field, with a windmill in the background.. The ending of a 50's film or something..

    Fields of Athenry

    Swing and a miss.
