    Hi Guys,

I'm looking for anywhere in Ireland that does inlay work? To be exact I want to get the "Tree of life" design on a 12 string.

Anyone have any ideas?? I've heard somewhere that fake or sticker inlays are availible butcan't find them anywhere

    cheers

Don't touch the stick on ones. No matter how thin they are, they'll still affect the feel of the fret board. I don't know if Derek Nelson would do inlay work. Whoever does it won't be cheap though.

It'd probably be cheaper to get a new guitar. You'd be looking at a full refret as well as the intense labour behind the inlay work.

Cheers guys, not too worried about the cost as it probably needs re-fretting anyway!!

I've got a Jem 7VWH, and a great resource for any modifications is projectguitar.com, it'll show you how to do it. It's not difficult, my brother makes Violins and does some amazing inlay work, I watched, and it's a piece of piss. There's also an article there on installing a sustainiac that I did (Shameless plug, shameless plug ;-) )

Other than that, there's a company called LGM guitars who will build any custom Jem you want, or just do inlay work on a guitar you have. Their stuff is amazing, 6, 7, 8 string guitars with the most amazing quilted maple. I swear I'm going to give enough money to them sometime to make one for me.

    Owen.

LGM isn't doing any more custom work. Jeremy's focusing on his Leviathans now.

If he'd do a Leviathan without the bits scooped out of the body we'd be in business. They look like amazing instruments.

    I like the scoopy bits.

All guitars should have scoopy bits.

I'm with feyla on that one, if they offered the Leviathan 8 string with a custom built floyd rose, I'd order. When I've the Credit Card cleared, I'd love to get my toolmaking friend to built the 8 string floyd plate and locking nut, everything else I could salvage from other used floyds I have here.

I'm sure there's a technical term for "scoopy bits" :)

CitizenKained, there's a comany in Russia called Shamray who'd probably build you a new one for the cost of getting the inlay done.

    'scoopy bits' = cutaways :D

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

I'm not sure if Shamray do just necks, especially acoustic necks. Of course, I'm assuming it's an acoustic.

There are cutaways and there are "scoopy bits" :D

    These are ****ing deadly though.
