Using the bad beat sticky

Some people on the forum seem to think the bad beat/moan/venting/brag/wow/lol sticky at the top of the forum is for other people, and that their own bad beats deserve a thread of their own.

So far the moderators have done a pretty good job in merging these people's threads with the sticky. This might be another reason why some people don't bother with it, they figure the mods will sort it out anyway. Unfortunately that means more the thread stays around till the mods turn up, and also more work for the mods.

So I suggest that as well as just merging offending posts with the sticky, the user should be warned to put them there in the first place. Three warnings and they should be banned from the forum for a week, or whatever is appropriate.

Anyone posting a bad beat thread and pretending it has some useful content should be banned for a month instantly.

    Anyone else agree?

    A month? Instantly?
Sounds a little harsh, but I like the idea.

I'm on the forum at least 5 times a day so if extra modding is needed I'd happily do it, even if it's just to moved threads to their appropriate places.

    Saves banning people.

I think banning people is a little harsh.

just a small idea i was thinking about, the sticky link does not give people their bad beat their own thread which is clearly what people want to discuss certain hands, so would it be possible to create a seperate home page for the bad beats, so that they can have their own threads etc (similiar to the link through real world games/poker/poker tournaments + events)

just a thought, but some people really love to read and discuss their bad beats, and through the sticky thread things can get a bit messy!

    Thats actually a good idea.

Tom is dying to get more traffic on the AntesUp boards, this seems like the perfect hook. I think I'll suggest it over there.

edit: http://www.antesup.com/boards/showthread.php?p=1196#post1196 If you think this would be a good idea, please add your support here.

We have a limited number of sub forums we can create here before we simply bust the interface. I think a forum might be created for "Hand Histories and Discussions etc". A broader brief then just BB's but every subforum should be active and also drain away a good proportion of topic-similar posts from the main Poker forum.

Please please don't go down this road. "Hand histories and discussions" refers to the threads I want to read. "Bad beats etc." refers to the threads I want to avoid. You have a perfect chance here to make use of the antesup.com boards without "busting the interface" on this site.

Actually I don't really mind where we talk about stuff, theres more then enough people for both sites and then some! In many ways Antesup is the better spot to centralise it but I cannot see a time when Boards doesnt have a thriving poker community. Its basically the hub at the moment and likely to stay so. I'm experimenting with the subforums on Antes to see what works and what doesnt right now.

    Good idea though.

i certainly didnt expect to cause such a fuss with my previous post. but i did get to understand mayb why that player reraised all in utg, thanks to devore for his explanation, is really all i was looking for, at least it was not disguised as a "what do i do next, call fold raise?" thread, when they are either boasts or bb, they are plentiful :)...sorry again for posting in the wrong section, i hope it didnt waste to much of ur precious time.

If there's content in the post, or a difficult decision to make that's what makes the discussion worth while. The result doesn't really matter, if a hand is played well and is worthy of discussion, then post away, this is exactly what I think helps us all to improve.

I must say, I completely agree with RoundTower, I pretty much never go into the BB sticky and it's great not to have to hear about someone's AA getting cracked by 89o, after raising 4x BB then checking their set only to be rivered with a straight....

I would also think that a seperate HH sub-forum is a great idea.

Thats it, 1 month ban for you, which in GAA terms is 28 days.

The poker forum is running nicely lately since the Tournament subforum was created. I don't think a hand history/discussion forum would help, it would take a large chunk of content away from the poker forum, and might even encourage BB threads.

Not sure lengthy bans would be popular either, it's hardly a cardinal sin. Maybe warnings for repeat offenders followed by a weeks ban. Then again one person's bad beat is another (inexperienced) players "This didn't turn out well, did I feck it up?" genuine question.

People need to relax. There are not that many people on this forum purposely posting BB threads that they know should be elsewhere. Also lets get another thing straight. It is highly unlikely that another sub-forum will be created so forget that and forget suggesting it in general for any topic. This is making a mountain out of molehill to coin a phrase. Lets move on.

I have absolutely no problem with newbies asking questions that appear to be obvious to someone who has seen most things before, that might feel terrible to them and want advice, but this thread originated from a person who, as RT said thought they were above the BB thread and that isn't right.

Now I've had a few drinks, so ignore my bad grammar, spelling, etc, but alot of people don't care about someone else's BB cos we've all had them.

They hurt. But why spread the misery!!!

Ya have to agree the forum has cleaned up since the sub forum, i don't think there is a need for another one just yet.
You could make 10 sub forums and someone will still post in the wrong section but to ban them for their stupidity is a bit harsh.

Just to make it clear, I wasn't suggesting anyone should be banned for stupidity. I suggested they should be banned only for persistently ignoring the warnings of the moderators, or for deliberately trying to get around the forum rules by disguising a bad beat as an informative post. I think this is quite lenient.

edit: actually I do think people should be banned for stupidity, but that wasn't the subject of this thread.
