The anniversary was over a week ago, but I havent seen any posts about it so I thought Id just make a little post on here so we can remember the dead.

14 unarmed men (and boys) died on the 30th of January 1972 when they were shot by British paratroopers during a civil rights protest.

Wikipedia has good article on it here

    Remember

    Jackie Duddy, 17.
    Patrick Doherty, 31.
    Bernard McGuigan, 41.
    Hugh Gilmour, 17.
    Kevin McElhinney, 17.
    Michael Kelly, 17.
    John Young, 17.
    William Nash, 19.
    Michael McDaid, 20.
    James Wray, 22.
    Gerald Donaghy, 17.
    Gerald McKinney, 35.
    William McKinney, 26.
    John Johnston, 59.

    Rest in Peace.

Only one thing worse than an armchair loyalist, and that's an armchair republican. At least the loyalist ethos hasn't permeated the chav populace of the South as much as the "bring them home" brigade.

Dodgy tache' and Celtic top anyone?

Disclaimer *this has nothing to do with politics*

Anyone whose opinion I actually respect will not have needed the above disclaimer...

There's nothing worse than people who claim that we have 'chavs' here in Ireland.

    Natch.

I just have a thing for "chav". It's a mental association thing, everytime I see one that's what pops into my head...

My Dad is from N. Ireland, and Ive had many a sectarian experience, one's which I did not provoke. So yes, I think its up to the people of N. Ireland, and I include myself in that. Only a fool or a loyalist would say the North belongs to Britain.

Dont turn this into something like that, I simply want to remember the dead, one of which was my girlfriend's cousin.

Or, well, you know, that democratically-mandated Unionist majority?

With the greatest respect, such a rememberance is really a private affair and it hardly seems appropriate as a precursor to a political argument.

Very true my friend, and as I tried to say in my previous post, that is not what I wish this to turn into. Just remember those you died.

If you just want to remember the dead then why did you say, "Give us back what is ours." Can you not remember them without encouraging the conflict which got them killed in the first place? It just seems to me that if you really just wanted to remember the lost you wouldn't have included any political messages in your post. You can always edit the line out though.
