Sky charge for not having phone connected?

    Hi

I have Sky + and multiroom. Recently my phone line to the multiroom box upstairs was damaged (child pulled line running to multiroom box out at the wall socket and damaged the connection.) and so is no longer connected to the phone. Sky + box is still connected.
My question is has Sky ever billed anyone for not having their multiroom box connected to the phone?
I know they occassionally send letters threatning to do so if someone does not have their box connected. I think they threaten to charge someone a second full subscription if the multiroom box is not connected.
Does everyone here with Sky + and multiroom have both boxes connected to the phone line?

    Thanks

I am not very technical as you may have gathered. Any advice on how to fix the phone cable? Basically the connection on the end is broken off so i just have wires sticking out. Can you add a connection to it? If so how? I was told you can cut a telephone cable and add a connector but is this difficult to do?
Only way i know is take up the whole cable running to the multiroom box and buy a new cable with connections at both ends.

    Thanks

I would wait until you get the threatening letters. Then call up and argue with them and then take whatever action is needed. They don't like losing customers one way or the other.

You need a special crimp tool and empty conectors. A new cheap phone cable may be cheaper. Check price of RJ11 tool at your local HW shop or Maplin, Peats or Radoionics

I've had Sky+ plus Multiroom for 6months. As soon as the engineer left I pulled up the 2 phone cables as my missus was giving me serious earache. Haven't heard from Sky about it - I've a suspicion it is not a priority for them anymore. I'm with the rpevious post - leave the cable out and argue about it if they contact you.

I never had mine in, about 6 mths ago or so i got a letter, i then phoned them, and argued it was in, she asked me to do something on the box, i did it worked, then i plugged it out again, (for some reason there connection kept calling our phone!!!!!) and after that i did not hear from then, nither boxes are connected to the phone, now. Sidebar: The installer put sky in my room while i was out and used the internet connection wire, rather than put in another connection to the box. lazy or what?

I'm due to get a Sky+ real soon, but I'd be very, very annoyed if any installer messed with my CAT5E cables to take a twisted pair for a phone connection. From my experience there aren't many who are even aware that all four pairs are needed (I had to wire up the sockets & plugs myself).

This Sky wanting a permanent phone connection to their digibox is sinister and should be optional, or are they trying too con people that Sky will not work without being connected to your phone ?..anyone should know a phone connection is not needed for satellite reception.

It is handy for interactive options, but are Sky not being a bit heavy/B] ?... big Brother has landed.

    P.

If you have no mirror sub, really there is no problem, ditch the phone line.

BUT a mirror sub uses phone to verify you havn't slipped a friend a cheap Sky World Sub worth nearly 70 Euro that you only pay 15 Euro for. Though they seem to take 2 or 3 months to get excited about it.

I got a promo letter from eircom where they were pushing Sky Digital among other things. I suppose eircom is delighted that it requires a phone line.

This mirror sub thing, is it using the phone connection or internal phone wiring?

    What's a mirror sub? A multiroom subscription?

Got that about 3 weeks ago, saying i had 4 weeks to sort it out or else.
I rang up and explained that its connected but with all the connections in our phone socket it can happen where the hover can knock the double adaptor slighty and we only know when the fax machine doesnt work.

We have 3 telephone numbers in our house 2 eircoms 1 BT the BT and eircom one are beside each other in the top room, where the sky plus is and my mam accidently plugged it into the nearest socket (the BT one)
So low and behold a day later we get a call from sky informing us that we are in breach of our contract using our subscription in another house without informing sky we moved house.
At first i was puzzeled untill he said our box was showing the BT number, thats when i copped it.

So sky are trying to be Big brother alright, but most people find the phone line hastle with them.
