Xbox Live Problems

Got a 360 last night. Don't have a game yet though so was trying to get online to get some demos. I got a gamertag and signed up on Xbox.com.

However, whenever I'm trying to sign in, I always get messages like "Xbox Live is not avilable" etc. My hardware is passing all the tests. Is the Xbox online service always this bad?

can't say I ever had this problem. How are you connecting your 360 to the internet?

Via the cable and a router. Like I said, its passing all the tests. I just can't see to get onto Live.

I haven't used Live before but setup a gamertag and password at Xbox.com.

ah ok, so you set the gamertag up on the web rather than the 360? did you add the gamertag to the 360?

Where do I do that? I've trying going onto Live via the "I'm already an Xbox Live member" option.

I haven't subscribed or anything. Its telling me now that "Xbox Live signup is currently unavailable. Please try again later".

Just created a gamertag.

But your not, you cannot become a Live member on the net, only through he 360.
Youve got to go to Create a gamertag THEN it will ask you to link it to an email address, your .net passport basically.
You get 1 month free gold with new accounts I think.

Ive only been on Live for a year and a half but its only ever been down once for a half hour, that was an overall system upgrade, so not likely.

I'be tried recover gamertag and all I'm getting is "Xbox Live signup is currently not avilable. Please try again later".

Anyone got a support number for Microsoft in Ireland?

Recover gamertag is only if you already had a gamertag on Xbox thats linked to your .net passport email address.

Ok ill run through it.
(Sure your 360 is plugged into router etc,!)

Hit 'Join Xbox Live'.
Follow all the prompts, end the current session.
Then enter your gamertag.
Enter your details.
Then your done.

Well i can promise you it's not live, it's a mistake your making, or your hardware is ****ed, like clank said, live has only ever had an hour or two down time since it launched!

Are there ports that need to be opened for this to work? We got a new XBox 360 too and are having bother connecting. One of the lads called Microsoft and they sad something to him about the firewall..

the ports are UDP 88 , UDP + TCP 3074

even with the ports open i have to set my netopia's firewall to low , or else it will have a strict nat on the 360.

Managed to get it hooked up. Downloaded the Fight Night and Condemned demos so far. Fight Night seems good, especially the knock outs, but it can be a bit slow. The graphics are amazing though.

Didn't get to play Condemned for long but it seemed pretty sh!te.
