    you played the hand as bad is it could have been played.
    you did so many things wrong.
    first of all ,your limping with 88 and then calling flat calling a raise.
    that alone suggests this player can be moved off his hand.
    then you choose to confront a big stack with 88.
    im not blaming you for wanting to see a flop for another 300 but you didnt hit your set so what are you still doing in the hand?
    now that you do decide to continue with your hand,raise him.out him under pressure.
    your just offering your chips to him.here come take them.
    have a plan how your going to play your hand and stick with it.
    when he bets on the flop ,as far as your concerned he has the A.he raised pre-flop and he bets on the flop.you missed your set so get out.you dont need to keep him honest.let some1 else do it.
    another point is,that could have been you.had you raised pre-flop then you could have bet the flop and represented the A. seen as i know this particular villian well he would have prob reraised you just to make sure you have the A but thats a different story.
    on a side note,this player is a extreamly aggressive and his a good player.
    he tests you alot with reraises just to know where he stands.
    avoid getting in confrontations with him unless you have a strong hand .
