Wrt54gp2

I just got the Linksys WRT54GP2 from blueface. So far I really like it but it seems very slow to dial, is there a way to speed this up (other than pressing #).

I also liked the dial plan I had on my Sipura, can something similar be done with this?

Any tips on how would be appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Paul

http://192.168.15.1/Voice_adminPage.htm will be familiar if you're used to Sipuras.

Also, if you put press the hash key [#] after your number, it should dial almost straight away.

How are you finding the new linksys router you got from Blueface? Any problems with it, as I am thinking of getting one.
I'll be using it for VOIP as well. :)

    I think it is excellent.

As an ATA it seems fine. Calls are crystal clear with no complaints of echo/noise yet.

It seems like a good router too. I have used it wireless and wired and both function as expected.

I would recommend it would suggest getting it from Blueface, it was the cheapest I could get it for (other than suspect deals on E-bay and ones locked to Vonage) and it will be pre-configured.

EDIT: I started a big thread on the broadband forum on wireless security last week. Look at that for some tips on, well, wireless secuity. :D

I heard some complaints about problems with the firmware. I also heard the US version has problems with Vonage, but it sounds like the Blueface one is okay. Do you have any other network devices (switches/routers) in your system?

I noticed that thread before, thanks for suggesting it

I have this Linksys ATA router, obtained from Blueface. I have a an 8 port switch running through it. Landline phone connected to the ATA. 2 DELL Poweredge [servers !?!][wired], 2 laptops [wireless], one gaming PC [wired] and 3 DLink DCS2100+ IP security cameras [wireless].

Not a problem running all that through the WRT54GP2.

It can also stream Video to my laptop, when It to the TV. Almost faultless video streaming once I don't go over about 1Mbps streams. I recode my own stuff down to MP4 1GB files. They average at about 1Mbps when streaming.

That sounds impressive. Who do you use for internet and VOIP access?

That thread came about just before I bought mine and I was worried. I mailed Blueface who said they had not seen these problems and I decided to buy it. No problems.

I feel a lot more confident about buying it now, :D

I have a rock solid Metro connection. I know this might sound like a contradiction, but I haven't had any problems with my net connection. I am testing the x-lite softphone at the moment, and haven't had any issues so far, a little latency but not really all that noticeable.

we hv been using wrt56gp2 since oct 2005. no complain, but had issues earlier the router occasionally crashed if P2P applications running. apparently when i disable uPnP, it no longer give a problem, i dunno why. this router should be able to cope with heavy traffics. other than that, it's an excellent toy!

Aaron (or anyone who can help) on the area where you can enter a dial plan on the wrt54gp2, there is a field marked 'emergency number' should this have a value? Mine is blank.

Also, how do I speed up the dial time thing (my original Q) I can't see any obvious settings and I'm a lazy, lazy man. :D

From the manual the Emergency Number is:

"Comma separated list of emergency number patterns. If outbound call matches one of the pattern, SPA will disable hook flash event handling. The condition is restored to normal after the phone is on-hook. Blank signifies no emergency number;"

So it will stop you being able to put the Emergency Operator on hold if you put 999 or 112 in there.

On the timing issue if the dial plan gets an exact match it dials straight away. If it gets a partial match it waits 3 seonds. if you want to reduce the 3 seconds then you use Sx where x is the seconds for that pattern. For example:

    (999|911|112|S1 30[1-5]|3xxx.|171|11[013-9]x.|1[02689]x.|[24-8]xxxxxx|0x.|*x.)

Would wait one second after you dialled 303. 303 matches two patterns so if you didn't have S1 one there it would wait 3 seconds. If you don't get any matches then you will wait 10s after the last key press.

And if all that is as clear as mud you can ignore it and press the # key after your number to dial immediately and skip the dial plan altogether.
