Finally started 'dressing up' the engine bay of my car today. Some people had commented in the past that it looked very clean, well it wasn't.

I spent a few hours stripping out bits and pieces because there was just no room to do anything in there, only then did I find the dirt.I applied degreaser and used my steam cleaner but it was a waste of time, eventually reverted to the power washer, that got a good bit out but really I think the right way would to be at least lift the engine, its impossible to get under the manifolds, especially when i drowned the place.

I won't get a chance to finish it untill next week, only hope I remeber where to put all bits back correctly, it's been years since I was under the bonnet.
I'll post a few pics and get the guru's opinions on whether I made a ass of it.:D

You seem to be doing fine.I would avoid removing as many parts as you can, try other methods like a long rod brush (taken from the kitchen) and pleanty of degreaser and hot water or a wire brush on a flexy drill

I use a baby bottle brush and thin steel whool. All at the household alley at Tescos.

Got the engine and a few other bits painted today, forgot my camera so no pics.Found a scouring pad worked wonders on heavy crap and dirt and managed to get most of the dirt removed. I noticed when I applied the first coat on the block some tiny oil weeps around the head, worrying, I suppose I should have expected a leak or two given the amount of crap that was gathered around the area, it had to come from somewhere. I wont really be sure untill it's all back together and running if their are any leaks, I could be just overly paranoid.

On a side note I would stay away from Mustang plus. I ordered a lower rad hose from them because I could'nt find one in cal-mustang or NPD. They charged the same carriage that Cal did, which was a box of stuff and arrived in under a week, I emailed Mustang plus yeaterday asking where the part was and they said they were sending it out yesterday:eek: and it would take 2-3 weeks. Shower of sh**s.

Yep NPD are the best cal second never bought from Plus as the were too expensive.

Don't worry about the oil until you rocker covers are bolted on, or if they are check the seal.:)

Glad to report that the car started fine and no signs of any leaks yet. Got most of the work done, still a couple of hose to do and looking at the pics I realise I forgot to paint the back of the bay. Looks a lot better than it did although I realise that the proper way would have been to remove every thing, ehgine included and spray properly, i used spray cans and a paint brush. Anyway, it looks a lot cleaner and it runs:eek:
