Custom Tattoos in Dublin or Galway

I've only just started thinking about getting a tattoo...I'm still not sure, but I DO know that if I get one I want it to be different, mine and girly. I'm not great artist, but I've started working on an idea, based on a rose.

My question is, is there somewhere with good tattoo artists that can help me edit the design and put it on? Or where is the best place to go for this plan?

(also, the less expensive the better - I'm a jobless student - but I also want a good and hygenic place. :))

Look at portfolio's to see an artists work. Go into the artists with the design, you'll be given the artist it is best suited to if the shop has difffernet ones that prefer differnet styles (black and grey, colour, etc.). Talk to him/her about what you want to do with it. They'll give you a (ballpark) price. Don't get it done where you can afford it, get it done where you feel the artist can do it the way you want it.

Snake bite in Dublin city(Abbey street) were very accomdating with my design and out it on my skin exactly as I wanted it, and fairly easy on the wallet too.

    Muchos gratias.

I was thinking Snake Bite anyway, but a friend was recommended Celestial Ring, but I don't know anything about it myself...

That's one to live by, thanks. :)

Tattos in Dublin - Zulu (ask for Sean or Gav or Justin - if Justin or Gav are still there!), or go to Snakbite & see Dimm...

Dimm did my two. And he and his buddy have awesome taste in music, they introduced me to Blood for Blood. Here's a picture of my tattoos just to show ya, I brought in the design I wanted, he did it perfectly. Like copied every little detail.

Not the most complex of tattoos, but a better job I could not have asked for.

    They're actually really nice!!

    I'm thinking Snakebite so.

For custom tattoos, do I just go in and say "Gimme this." (In polite tones of course). I've never had ANY done before, so I just want to know.

Also, is there a limit to how detailed a tattoo can be? If you try to make, like really small boxes, they'll end up blending in the skin?

If I had a better picture you could see the lines that make the melting effect on mine are really quite intricate, and they were copied exactly from what I wanted.

I'll explain to ya how they do it incase ya didn't know: So basically right you bring them in the custom design you want, then they get copy paper(those note books with the sheet of ink covered paper included for making easy doubles) and trace the outline of the various parts of your design(in my case the inside and outside of the X) so that the copy paper makes a perfect copy of the outlines, then they get the piece of copy paper, press it into your skin(so that the ink leaves itself another perfect copy on your skin) and then trace the design with the tattoo needle. Or if that was too hard to understand(I had trouble on second read :D), lets just say they basically make a stamp outta whatever you bring them, and then stamp your skin with it, and trace that.

So if you have the cash, feel free to go nuts on the added design and details when you come up with your tattoo. And as for like really 'tiny' boxes, when you show them the design they'll be all "hmmm, I really don't see that working, the boxes will just look all blended....." etc so they'll suggest alternatives such as just making the boxes bigger or somethin.

Oh and thank you very much :D I'm always happy to hear people like my tattoos, not because they're mine ya know, but because what they mean.

I can see the detail! They're amazing, I'm well impressed! What do they mean? :o

I've seen my friend get a couple, so I'm not afraid of that part. I just want to get it right, and want it to be MINE, not just common flash.

Also, since I'm thinking of getting it on my hip, a totally anti-tattoo friend was like "But what about when you have kids?", so now I'm worrying about stretches! Ah, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it! :D

They're straight edge(SxE) tattoos, cause I'm straight edge, clearly :D

    Straight edge means that:

    I don't drink.
    I don't smoke.
    I don't do drugs.
    I don't have casual sex.

Hmmm, the stretching could be an issue when ya have kids, so just don't have em for ages! Haha

i was just curious about what you would do, get it tattooed over, or get it part of a larger piece or somthing

That's a good point, what if at some point in your life you like a glass of wine with your meals or take up smoking, or discover the delights of stimulants or realised that sex without a relationship is less hassle, what then?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 151 ✭✭marymc

    Lasers! YAY!

Ah, it's like my question - if you really want a tattoo on your hip, but there's a possibility of kids in the future and it getting stretched... what do you do?

Get it for now. If you see it carrying you way into the future, you're fine. Cross other bridges when they arise.

Theres a reason for being a straight edge, and a mentality for it, I'm not gonna bother getting into all that here, but I'll be straight edge the rest of my life, don't worry about it.

Dont know if you ever got your work done. But if you're in Galway you dont need to go to Dublin to get inked. Ronan at Irish Ink in Galway is a great artist, really creative. If you need custom work, have sketches or just ideas he'll work with you on it. Almost as good as me :D but i'm not in Ireland at the moment, mores the pity. Really nice guy. But as previous posts have stated, you should always look at the artists portfolio and be comfortable with him/her before you get any work done. It don't rub off!

    Groovy Zyg! Thanks.

I haven't had it done yet - I'm saving up. But I DID get my first - EVER - piercing! A ring on the rim of my ear. I'm so proud! So soon I'll start looking around Tattoo parlours. It's actually easier to get it in Dublin, because I'm in college nearby, but if I leave it til summer, it's good to know Galway is safe! :)

Straight-edge isn't about denying yourself this stuff, it's about being responsible about it. Some people take it to the extreme that they can't have any of it, which is a newer and somewhat altered take on the original principles. Also, there are reasons and mindsets, yes, but they can change. I ahve known people who stopped being straight-edge. However, none of them had tattoos proclaiming it...
