I've just gone back subscribing to SKY - (been with NTL for a year) and have decided to take up teir offer of a new dish. I still have the original dish and decoder and I'm wondering are their any additional uses for the second dish... could I point it to another satellite and bring in some other channels... or would I connect it into my PC to record programs via a satellite card... any ideas are appreciated...

    G.

    Yes all of those...
Also you can quad LNB on existing dish and have 2nd box with UK EPG

The Sky box doesn't work too well on other sats but many of the SR22000 and SR27500 stations will work on Astra@19.2E and Hotbirds@13E (progressively further west and a little more tilt up than Sky position).

As already said above, get a quad lnb, You dont really want two sat dishes on your house, get a uk free to view card from ebay.ie or www.freesatcard.com. Should be no more than Eur60 and get all the channels as listed at the link below subscribtion free on your second box. Also Filmfour will be available with this card from July onwards!!

But one 65cm Sky dish can't get Hotbird, Astra@19 and Sky. (an 80cm can though).

ok, it's logical to use a quad LMB...but I'm getting the second dish free anyway...

So, if I get a quad LMB from the installer, can I (a) point the second dish at something else with the single digital LMB with the sky decoder... or (b) even if I replace the sky decoder with another decoder and use one for the foreign european cards, can I get something else in... really I suppose it depends on the size of the dish to pick up the signal...

Can anyone recommend a satellite card for the PC and can I finally ask, how does it read the viewing card... does the digibox also communicate/interface with the satellite card in a PC...or is it left out of the equation altogether?

Thanks to all those who replied to me...

Only pay channels need a viewing card.
Generally PC Satellite receiever does not even have a card slot.

The excellent free channels on Hotbird or Astra 19 don't use a viewing card either. many of these channels will work on a Sky Digibox with no card via tuning "other channels"

Skystar 2 or 100% compatible (all made by Technotrend). Free ProgDVB or Ritz SW.

No, Each Satellite Receiver (box or PC based PCI card) connects directly to the LNB on the dish.
