BT today posted figures at the top end of expectations after revenues from 'new-wave' services offset weakening demand for traditional telecoms work.

Shares in the group rose 1% as quarterly underlying earnings of £1.4bn (€2.04bn), down marginally on last year, came in ahead of City hopes for £1.36bn (€2bn).

Revenues grew 8% in the three months to December 31 with turnover from new-wave services, such as IT network services and broadband, accounting for one third of business after a 42% rise in sales.

If they kept raising their line rental and kept dial up they wouldn't need to sell boradband.

What is helping bt bigtime is their Voip for large business's, making redundant companys like Siemens who up till now would of had a big client grasp here in ireland with large banks etc.. for internal communications.

BT are on a big customer recruitment drive at the moment, a few days ago in work bt had a sales rep guy in and it was like giving candy to a baby, id say 3 out of 4 people he talked to signed on the dotted line; which makes sence cos bt makes a killing on bundling packages where as eircom really havnt got their act together!
