NTSC to dvd?

Where I would be able to get some NTSC videos I bought (couldn't get them in any other format) converted to dvd?

Does anyone know what the price of doing that would be like? Can anyone here do it for me even? Does anywhere in Dublin do it or would I just have to post them off to someone in the UK to do it for me at a reasonable price?

    Thanks.

If you have the hardware it’s not too difficult to do it yourself all you need is a copy of Nero Vision [part of the Nero suite] and a DVD writer.

Import the DVD assuming it has no copy protection (if it does use DVD Decrypter) into Nero Vision and proceed to create a DVD from it, you can specify what kind out output you want so Nero will convert it to the PAL format its not a 100% effective but the few times I've done the job it has worked out okay (one time it didn't).

The only problem is you wont be able to keep any of the menus already present and the ones Nero creates are fairly limited.

    Import the DVD

Thanks for the advice but it's not a dvd. It's a NTSC video i.e. a tape so I can't import it.

You'll probably have to find a dual NTSC/PAL VCR somewhere and hook that up to the pc before uploading the VT and then converting it into PAL. Not an expert on the hooking of VCR's to PC's (as hardly anyone has those ancient old things anymore except a Museum) Alot of the New VCRs are dual format NTSC/PAL. If you know anyone that moved here from the states and brought their stuff then they can help you as their VCR's will be dual NTSC/PAL presuming they brought the thing with them.

Buy/Borrow a DVD recorder and hook it up to the TV. Then get a VCR that supports NTSC and hook it up to the TV using the R/F output on the back of the VCR (its also advisable your TV be NTSC compatible too ;)) Then record the r/f channel on the DVD recorder.

Chances are you will end up with a NTSC DVD aswell but if your tv supports PAL then that'll be no problem really. It's also easier to convert NTSC DVD to PAL DVD than NTSC-Video to PAL on the fly :D

Thanks for that. I'll have to start looking for a NTSC capable VCR by the looks of things.

Does anyone know anything about MPEG2 capture cards by the way?

Most newer videos will play NTSC, I backed up videos without the PC just using a video recorder and standalone dvd recorder, scart to scart. Was able to do nice menus too when they were multiple video tapes. There is a company that will do it for you, it was mentioned a while ago here, but they may not do copy protected stuff.
I had to get firmware to take the macrovision protection off my dvd recorder.
