I'm miserably tight and do not want to get stuffed with expensive refills / cartridges for a printer.

I was thinking of an all in one printer/scanner/copier but new cartridges seems very exorbitant. Any one any experience ?

Dont really need colour printer and although printing infrquently, would not be impartial to laser printer and buying separate scanner.

    Any guidance please ?

If you do buy an inkjet; the HP Business ones work out best in cost per sheet, and reliability etc. and they have a very large black ink tank, and indivudal colour ink tanks.

Also they have seperated the print heads, so each ink replacement doesnt meen your buying a head .. sligly checper consumables.

I wouldnt reccomend any of the 'all in ones' i've tested, (HP, Lexmark etc,) as they were more trouble than a seperate scanner / printer. I always go for speperates

One cheap mono printer i can also reccomend is the oki range.
Less than €200 , and economical toner cartridges. Paper tray holds a good few sheets too!

Thanks for that. What is minimum spec one should look for in a scanner. Anyone recommend one, limited space ?

With regards to printers, whatever you do avoid Lexmark LIKE THE PLAGUE. Their printers may seem cheap but they're generally just naff, and the cartridges end up costing significantly more than the printers themselves. Dell also resell Lexmark printers under their own brand, so watch out for them too.

If you don't need to print out colour, maybe you will be better off getting a low-end laser printer like the Oki ones Xterminator mentioned. IMO printing out text and stuff looks miles better on laser printers, especially when you buy typical low-quality paper - it just ends up looking all blotchy with an inkjet printer.
