What is it with the Herald lately. It seems that trivial stuff makes the front page headlines. Take tonights paper for example:

    RACHEL'S HUSBAND IN CASH WINDFALL

It refers to Joe O'Reilly, the husband of murdered woman Rachel O'Reilly. It state thats he has a new job.

    WTF?

Yep, it's a scummy tabloid on a par with The Sun. Wouldn't wipe my arse with it.

But at least The Sun invents interesting news :D
Seriously though, even trashy tabloids don't cover such pointless stories; although their piece on Wayne O'Donoghue getting a ps2 was close IMO

The Evening Herald is a pointless newspaper, in my opinion. Apparently, it's good for apartments to let and the like.

The Herald is a marvellous piece of literature. The columnist are the modern day Joyces and modern day McGahern of Ireland.

The Evening Herald is a terribly poor excuse for a newspaper. I don't read the papers as much as I probably should, but I know that whenever pick up the Herald, I've finished with it in a matter of minutes, and am left wondering why I initially bothered..

Pile of poo, with poor excuses for writers 'writing' for it..

While i agree the herald is not up to par for the standard paper of the masses, its not as bad as most of the other tabloid rags, and at least that nob Paul Williams doesnt write in it!

    The Times all the way

What is it with the Herald lately.

Metro and especially the new Daily "Irish" Mail coming into their stomping ground, that's what.
Even the Indo is going low brow on some of it's content.

Yeah I posted a thread about the Herald a few weeks ago, basically saying the same thing (it was about them using the front page to taunt Wayne O Donoghue).

    Piece of sh!t.

Paul Hyland is one journalist I read to see what his opinion will be on a certain topic.

Normally, any opinion he expresses is the polar opposite of an opinion he expressed on the very same topic yesterday, last week or a month ago.

I hate that paper. It makes baby jesus cry.

Herald is a piece of crap, the only paper worth reading in this country is the times and even then that can be hit and miss. The English times is my current paper of choice.

I've bought the Daily Irish mail out of curiousity. Seemed to me it was an English paper with a few bits of Irish news. It was like reading any of the British dailies.

Have to agree, the Evening Hearld is a total rag. i don't know who buys it

    McGahern is still alive.
Dead to the evening herald reading apathetic youths, unfortunately.

No, its been like that for a long time. Just tonights "Headline" takes the biscuit.
I suppose this is what happens when theres no competition in the market!

newspapers are past it if ya ask me, honestly how can you trust a newspaper to report anything when it might conflict with the owners business interests.
the most disgraceful example of this was the coverage of the irish ferries dispute. pisspoor to none in the herald and the herald am and feck all in the indo as well. why? cause the directors of independent news and media who publish those papers were ALSO on the board of the owners of irish ferries. now the terms "conflict" and "interest" come to mind but that didnt seem to affect the editors:D

word to the wise. listen and read EVERYTHING you can on an issue, DONT believe anyone and make up you own mind on the evidence

You think this is a new thing? William Martin Murphy and Rupert Murdoch come to mind. The Irish Independent is a piss poor newspaper anyway. The only paper worth reading is the old Irish Times.

except on the internet thank god :D

i know you have to vet it more than conventional media because half the stuffs bollocks but if someones trying to cover something up the BEST place to find out about it is the internet. always remember watching sky news when milosovitch was being ousted live on telly and all the local were emailing the station asking what was going on because the radio station was off the air and all the telly was showing was some nature program about wild brown bears:D kinda hard for a government to pull the eyes over a public when you can get streaming feeds on the net.
i reckon its the first time the internet actually contributed to the fall of a government.

I think we all know the real reason as to why Joe O'Reilly gets an unusual amount of front page coverage from the Evening Herald.

If I stated that real reason I'd get banned.

I think you're just proving the OP's point with that comment. Certain media outlets have become self-anointed judges in this case and have decided that in the absence of facts being made known at a trial, they are going to take it upon themselves to destroy a man's life by starting a whispering campaign.

Yep, it's a scummy tabloid on a par with The Sun. Wouldn't wipe my arse with it.

Well more ink sticks to your arse with the sun anyway, you would probably be better off using the herald.

I thought McGahern was the modern day McGahern?

Anyway, I agree the Herald is a fine read and I will personally track down & murder each and every one of you who have besmirched it's good name here.

never in my life have I considered an issue and thought "hmmmmm, I wonder what Ian O'Doherty - aka rentadub - thinks about this." By the way - you can't say that the Herald is on a par with the Sun - it lifts most of its storys from that mornings sun anyway.

Utter drivel of a paper. It really is a sad day when there's only one Irish paper worth buying (the old lady of D'Olier Street).

You clearly find it quite absorbing, but despite your cogent argument I'd still have to turn my nose up at it.

I've always hated the herald, the Mirror is just as bad. Today its leads the with story that Stephen Gately has slept with women.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,341 ✭✭✭jasonb

The only paper I'd read nowadays is The Irish Times. It seems to be the only one left that actually reports news, and in a fairly unbiased way.

The Herald and all those other pieces of **** just seem to print whatever gossip they want, whether it's true or not.

What worries me is the amount of people who read them, and then consider themselves informed...

    J.

The worst thing about that is that its old news! they or another paper ran it a few weeks ago about Gately and groupies when he was in Boyzone.
