External flash without a hotshoe

I've got a Fuji S5500 which has a built in flash but no hot shoe.

I know it's possible to get external flashes that can be triggered by the built in flash. But that's all I know!

I just want to experiment with different indoor lighting arrangements and definitely don't want to spend loads of money.

    What options do I have?

Does this camera pre-flash? If so can that be disabled?

If not I dont think you can use a slave flash with it.

Got everything sorted on Saturday in Halls on Talbot St.
