Which Sky boxes do you have?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

My Amstrad box is updated, but new Pace isn't.

On the FTA it easy to find 40 TV stations to have in Favorite Menu/ Favorite Guide.

Some stations would have been lost in the EPG "noise" before.

On FTV card C4, Five and Sky3 too of course.

I'll put a list of 50 suggestions on the ICDGopedia for those that have never explored the Free Channels extensively with a channel description.

Usefull for FTV / FTA boxes.

It is the BEST SW update in usability there ever was to have a Favorites program Guide.

Guide then Purple button, for those that haven't twigged yet.

Services Favorites to set the list contents to start with.

Is it my imagination or have a few epg numbers changed today?

Can you get the update while your watching Sky or does the box have to be on Standby? Also if your box is off completely at night (at the mains) and just say its your turn for an update, what happens? Do you go to the back of the que so to speak or does your box get updated first thing when you turn it on the following morning?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

Leave box on standy while not watching...

    Don't unplug at mains.

It isn't a queue as such. They could update all at once almost, they roll out a block each so as to not overload the call center with people ringing up.

Every Sky box pointed ay 28.2E will get it eventually.

    Watty

Im going to check your channel suggestions now....! May I suggest, if you all havent ben viewing it already, channel 464 ClassicFM (did I get the name right..?)

Of course you have to like classical music but if you even like it a bit theres great stuff on it.
Saw G4s version of Bohemian Rhapsody today.

Watty (or anyone) is there a way to record the audio from such a channell, and make a CD from it? One of the Dixons Limerick guys says he records from a radio station every week, and edits/burns it on his pc.!

288's (Rapture) schedules are always worth a look, they're so all over the place. Seen some obscure movies there.

250 (Real Estate) shows a lot of new zeaand verisons of Tommy Walsh's shows, ec.

    THree ways:
    1) A PC Satellite card from about 75 Euro. Record digital in MP2 format direct to disk. Convert for CD Audio or MP3 192K or use as a sound track on SVCD or DVD picture album.

    2) Record via sound card Line in in Analog Stereo from Digibox RCA connectors L & R

    3) Use a FTA sat box with Digital out and PC with a Digital In (or external Creative box with USB and Digital Audio in).

Here is a sample list of FTA Sky channels that can fill up your 50 Favorite EPG slots.

    http://bytelive.com/wiki/tiki-index.php?page=Sample+Sky+FTA+Favorites

I omitted the POP, News and Radio free channels as either there is not meaningfull schedules or in case of radio no schedules.

I was messing with Sound Recorder in XP a few weeks ago. I clicked record [with no input devices] and it recorded the audio track of a programme I had recorded with my Hauppage PVR earlier. Saved it as CD audio quality [i.e. hit bit rate] and used it as background music in a DVD menu.

You might want to give it a go? ;)

My Digibox A Grundig Model 2.78A Version 4E0302 updated the EPG this morning :)

The favourites addition is very welcome, All in all the upgrade has been a positive experience for me, It is nice to see such trashy channels as "friendly TV" and "Wine TV" segregated out from the Entertainment section.

My mates Panny DSB30 updated last Friday, though my Pace 430 hasn't updated yet.

It seems the new Paces are last in line.

    Thanks for that watty,

You're the first that we know of with an updated new Pace box.

I should expect an update in teh coming few days or so.

Using the mates box, the new Favourites thing is a definite bonus.

    my new pace upgraded.

    Pace
    model: 1.0.45
    Ver: 9F0A03
    OS: 1.2S4FE
    Epg: 3.4.4b

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,347 ✭✭✭cullenswood

My new Pace also updated. Nice little feature this new favorites thing. Is there any way you can add ITV to the favourites. Was trying to do it last nite, but couldn't

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

    Not on an Irish card.

If you have a FTV or UK card... yes.

It's even worse... Now the "upside down" card trick or no card trick on Sky Interactive doen't give the UK EPG anymore.

Is there any way of getting the UK epg ?? why would sky bother stop this ?

The scenario my parents are in is that they cancelled there Irish sub to just have the fta channels. I assume now that I can use the favourites for some fta channels and use "other channels" for bbc3, bbc4, itv3 and itv4 ??

Good list Watty, although I too would add Real Estate TV (250). There's just something about watching auctions... :D Seriously though, I'd have it as more watchable than some that made the list.

Also, why no Five on the list if you're listing Channel 4?

I must check whether we've had the update - I was expecting a number change for radio, when I didn't see that I assumed no update (obviously not paying attention!).

There is a complete list of FTA on the ICDGopedia, that list is just a quick sample of what is possible.
(It makes Analog Cable or Analog MMDS look bad value :) )
A mistake any of the ICDG Wiki editors can fix.

TV3's challenge to ITV FTA? Dunno.

I have ammended the EPG instructions
With NO card after Interactive in Sky NEws, you can add ITV/BBC favorites and have UK EPG. This loses Sky3 which does work on a cancelled Irish Card

    Yes.

Other channels works, it must do by EU law. But Sky arn't obliged to make the Favorites or EPG available for "other channels".

The Upgrade DOES change EPG changeover behaviour, however while an Upside down or fake card now results in Irish EPG, no Card (Card removal while in Sky Interactive on Sky News via Red button) does still give UK/London EPG. BBC NI Channels in the 900s

My Pace 430N was updated yesterday morning.

The new Favourites EPG is the only good thing to come from this from what I can make of it so far. This is a good new feature though and gives reason to having a Favourites List.

My pace with FTV card is updated. Great bonus having the favourites epg. No more going through pages and pages of crap that we don't have to see what's on.

My Grundig last night too, new Pace at start of this week. New Favourites layout is better .... I seem to remember a cynical response when I said back in December that this had been promised in an earlier Sky magasine!

I'm kinda lost. Sorry. If I go to the guide the purple (dark blue on mine) says +24h I think.

    Mabye I'm just thick :)

If you have the new SW, then pressing guide then purple (instead of selecting any menu options for specific guides) takes you to a Favorites guide.

My new Thompson box, installed last week, upgraded at 10 o'clock tonight. Right at the end of American Idol!

    Didn't know what was happening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,568 ✭✭✭ethernet

I got the update [3.4.4b] a few nights ago ... during a thunder storm. And a particular family member also plugged it out. Lucky the flash memory wasn't corrupted.

Must say, I'm very impressed with the seperate favourites menu. A please to navigate.
