I have downloaded the app but haven't used it yet.

    What's the sound quality like?

I'll have to use up my Skype credit first though.

Both of these sites are owned by the same crowd. Same thing, different names.

If you are calling someone in Dublin dial +3531[phone number]. Just drop the 0 off any area code then add it to +353 and dial the number. In this case, Dublins area code is 01, so you drop the 0 and add +353.

    Thats because 0035380 is invalid!

    That looks alarmingly dodgy
voipstunt and voipbuster are hosted by the same server (rackspace.net). They also look alarmingly similar.
Oh look they are registered to the same company

Yep same crowd but more destinations with voipstunt.
If you have an ATA then you might want to try www.sipdiscount.com
    Same company again
    :)

Nothing dodgy, one is a beta version. I have made a few 10 minute calls to the UK and ireland. No problems. I think the stunt does need some top-up at some stage but minimal like €5 per 4 months or something. There was another thread here mentioning it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,595 ✭✭✭johnnyrotten

Just made 3 landline calls from 1 to 7 mins in durations. No probs at all and great quality

Are the calls free? What do I have to do to get this. How much do I have to pay?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,845 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Can you use it if your house phone is in use? Is it all done over the BB connection?

How does it work. How much do you have to pay exactly to get it set up and to use it. What type of gear do you need to use it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 147 ✭✭pauldave

Are the calls free? What do I have to do to get this. How much do I have to pay?
    Go to www.voipstunt.com
Download the little programme and run it.
Then using your mic and speakers (or a USB phone) you make the call with the dialler you just installed using the international dialling codes
    eg for dublin 01 6666666 you dial 00 353 1 6666666 Galway 091 666666 it'd be 00 353 91 666666 always leave out the 0 .
it connects over the internet and its free of charge.
IF you are getting disconnected after 1 min top up your account with E10 this will stay on your account as long as you dial free numbers. ie geographical landlines to a load of countries.

Think i have it covered but open to corrections
    PD:)

Its done over BB. and seperate to the house phone.

Is there anyway of knowing it is free, like how can I tell?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,845 ✭✭✭✭cormie

    Sounds good.

Will this definitely not show up on your bill as a premium number? I think I got one of them virus dialers before and a "psychic tarrot line" showed up on the bill and cost about €30 for 5 mins:eek:

Is this possible by using this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,106 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

I've been using Voipbuster for all my phone calls since November.
I put in €5 of credit initially and I have made hundreds of free calls.
Superb service and you can pay via Paypal if you are wary (which you neednt be ;) )

No Danger of that happening M8.
The software tells you how much each call costs per minute while you dial it.
    Its legit.

With BB or regular dial-up? I havent heard of any scams like that with BB.

I have been using stunt and have put in NOTHING

Did i say something wrong ?
Didn't realise you ban people for saying it as it is without using any swearwords
All I said in reply to an certain mod was its better to know what i am rather than going about with ones head up ones backside and not knowing you're a w*nk*r
But then again its ok i suppose for a mod to take the mick out of us mere mortals ??? But when the mod is unable to comeback with another witty comment he gets his buddy to edit my reply.
The reason I use the sig I do is there are enough muppets on boards,
Some as the community can see are mods, because to post something like that on a fresh thread thats alerting the community to something more than a bargain will put anyone off looking at the link posted.
This is after all a bargain alert thread not a slagging off thread.
So blade give your buddy a little rap on the knuckles as i'm sure anyone looking at the thread would agree he was out of order to try and spoil a legitimate thread.

Use it when you are using your house phone.
If it doesnt interrupt the house phone
when talking its not gonna go on your bill.
Look at the people that used it.
    google "VOIP how it works"
This is newish technology and phone companys don't want you to know about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,845 ✭✭✭✭cormie

The tarrot line thing happened to me on Dial Up, I have BB now though:) So all you have to do is download the SW and dial as if you were internationally dialing and it's free? Sounds good, no more waiting on the house phone to be free either:)

EDIT: also, what number will it show up on their handset that I'm dialing from?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,033 ✭✭✭Slippin Jimmy

Does the person you are ringing get charged for recieveing the call? How do the company make their money in that case?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 147 ✭✭pauldave

    cormie wrote:

Number withheld or 888888888888 all 8's
At the moment eircom are blocking them from issueing VOIP numbers so you can't get incoming calls yet.
And if comreg was able to do its job they would force eircom to release the numbers.
Unless you give a UK / Spanish etc address then they'll give you a number for there and that'll show up on the persons phone you call. Also handy if you have people in that country they can call you for a local price.
But thats getting into tech stuff so for now enjoy free calls :)
    PD

    No its free.
You can't get charged for answering your home phone without agreeing to it first. like reverse charge calls operator will ask if you want to acceptthe charges

All down to market share and building up the company profile.
They charge for other locations and very reasonable too.
It dont cost as much as we've been paying to make a phone call.
Thats why phone companys are running scared.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,845 ✭✭✭✭cormie

And so they should be. Thanks for all the info.

Now how do I make sure that I wont be cut off if I want ot make an important call? Do I need to put money in an account? Will this money be used up by calls over the 1 minute mark as quoted from the T+C's above?

So let me get this straight. I am not trying to be rude, but it is hard to believe. I am going to ring someone in Galway using this, I am not charged for it and the person I am ringing is not charged for it. What is the minimum top up required to use this service? How long does the top up last.

I have paid NOTHING and used it for about 1 hour in total. calls up to 12 mins to the UK & ireland. Rang online shops up north rather than ringing. I did try the US and was told I needed credit, it may have been a toll number, it was for a store.
They make there money on other calls and adverts just like all the others. You can call mobiles abroad cheaply but your friends would get roaming charges. Nothing to stop you picking up a sim card in another country for just the visit. Then people could ring you cheaply. Or if they go to an internet cafe with it installed they can ring ireland.

You need a headset for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,033 ✭✭✭Slippin Jimmy

Can you ring mobiles? I am going to download it, see what happens. Let you know how I get on.

By the way, I wasn't implying that there was anything dodgy with these sites. I actually use VoiPBuster.....works fine. This new one looks better though, in that you can call the UK free

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,033 ✭✭✭Slippin Jimmy

I have rang the local libary. I stayed on for 1:30. It seems to have worked alright, saying that I have used a microphone and my laptop to do it. No head set at all. It did come up saying that this call was for free. How long can I use it without being cut off?

If you want to call mobiles you need credit. think its 25c pm.???
E10 top up and 1 hour is limit cuts you off and no don't use your cred if you go over just cut off.
Check t and c think your E10 lasts 120 days.
    MOBILES ARE CHARGED.
I'd say i've saved E50 so far still got E8.64 credit from my tenner.
Read the terms and conditions then post if you got Q's (not being rude)
    You cant loose
Well maybe the tenner but you'll spend that on phone calls to places other than listed and mobiles.

Are you sure you did not have to pay anything? Can it be billed onto the eircom account? So this means I can ring someone in Galway and spend 5hrs talking to them for free, with noting in my account. And I won't be charged for it?

If you phone someone on a Mobile and they are on their own Network, they will not be charged Roaming charges. You only get roaming charges if you take your mobile outside of its own network.

If you have to put 00353 in front of the tellophone number, does this not mean you are ringing internationally?

No, you can do the same with a mobile phone (all my numbers have the international prefix in front of them so I can dial them from anywhere). If you're in the country you're dialling from, it's not an international call.

Yes, I should have been clearer. my friend was travelling to asia. If I rang him on my PC to his mobile he is charged roaming rates. If he gets a sim card in asia I can then ring him free (most mobiles on stunt are free in china). If he went to say spain he could still get a sim and I would have discounted rates with no roaming. I presume you can pick up a sim cheap or for free like here.

but the real burning question is can you ring the porn lines for free ;)

    No don't think so
But no harm in trying if thats what you're in to .....

It dont matter if you are ringing internationally its FREE
Its through your BB so nothing to do with eircom BT etc...
    Google "VOIP"
