I know what the host is, (lets say for argument's sake it's "jeje.com") and I have the username and password. How exactly do I access the ftp?

You load up your FTP software and enter that information. I use FileZilla, but there are many out there. Or you could just use Internet Explorer. But don't.

Obviously, make sure you're actually connecting to an FTP server, eg. ftp.jeje.com

You can simply go into Windows Explorer, and turn on the address bar.

    Type in the address (ftp://jeje.com)

You will then be prompted for username and password and can drag and drop files to the FTP.

It's usually easier to use an ftp program than explorer. Loads of free ones out there but I find filezilla to be the best.

AS the above posters have stated you enter the host server, username and password into the ftp program and it will connect to the ftp server. Then it's a simple task of dragging the files that you want from the local drive to the host server.

Internet Explorer works fine for me, I just copy and paste files from my PC to the site (as I would to nany other folder on my PC).

When I go to the ftp address I get an error message ... "no access blah blah", I press enter past this and then I get a blank IE window.

Now select File at the top left of the window and you should see a "Login as ..." option, click on this and you will be prompted for a username and password - I find it's a quick and no hassle way of copying files to and from the ftp site.

    A little addition here...

Try to transfer your text files as "text"... and your images/movies/non-text files as "binary". There might be an auto-detect option which you can switch on...

Thanks for all the input. I downloaded filezilla but it won't let me connect (it says "unable to connect!"). Any troubleshooting tips?
