I.m upgrading a pentium 4 1.7gigahertz pc , can anyone recommend a good agp card for gaming, that has t/l functions,it has no pci-exeslot.Must be dx 9 card,my budget is 90-140euro.Because in 5 months, ill be building an amd pc. Is it worth getting a a 256meg ram agp card,to play games on a 1.7cpu?Cos in 5months i,ll be buying a pci-e card? One that has tv out would be handy.

Yup, an ATI 9600 Pro or XT should give a good boost depending on what you have already.

A 9800xt would be a waste on a 1.7 cpu. I'd go with Soupercomputer and say go for something like a 9600xt - any games that'll run great on a 1.7 p4 won't need anything better really, that cpu is very limiting :)

My main concern with the 9800 series would be power demands.

    radeon 9550.

    Cheap and will play BF2.

Will tie you over nicely, gives most of the performance of a 9600 XT as well being 20 quid cheaper.

A 1.7 p4 will run bf2 like a dog, regardless of the card generally speaking you'd still have to have settings all on low.

True, but no matter what card he puts in on a 1.7 ghz most modern games will run like a dog.

At least the 9550 is cheaper than everything else :-)

And is prolly the best cheap card you can get first hand.

If you mean the original call of Duty any old card will do. I used to run COD on a Geforce 4 on high settings, ran no bothers. So if you plan playing games of this general calibre a 9550 would indeed be fine.

Some of the PC worlds probably sell it but to be honest they charge about 150 for it, usual rip off. If you are getting that card, best try either pick it up online or here on boards, I for example got a 9600xt recently for 65 inc post, and it even plays cod2 and bf2 on decent settings. :)

www.komplett.ie - you should grab a 6600GT 256MB DDR3 card there. Don't get the 128MB model..It will show it's weaker side in newer games if you do.

Did you not read rest of the thread? He only has a 1.7 P4 cpu. a 6600gt would be an absolute waste. :)
