The submission date was the 1st of Feb, so did anyone here send in any of their work for consideration?
It's a good thing to see in my opinion; if you compare RTE to the BBC (as is always the case) you can see just how much harder it is for people to get started in it; in the BBC there is a very well organised system for Work Experience, there are so many regional stations and radio stations, DAB etc. that getting your foot in the door is a lot easier, you can start at a local level and work your way up.
Because of the size of Ireland and of our TV network RTE is centralised with only a few regional studios, not even regional radio stations. This is one of the first oppertunities for the general public to get their work aired on RTE and is hopefully the start of a new drive to engage the public at a greater level.

I wonder, with DAB finally making its way to Ireland, will there be a possibility of county stations, RTE Dublin, RTE Cork etc.? Even if there was a few hours of Radio 1 devoted to regional broadcasts (as is done with BBC 1, BBC2, ITV etc. in the UK) it would be a great step forward and would give more people a chance to be noticed by the national broadcaster.

definatly, i've always thought about this and think it would be a great idea. Instead of having Capital D though should they not maybe be thinking of having regional news (for like half an hour) for other areas of the country? Capital D from what I've seen is good though.
