For Sale at Auction this month (not in Ireland you numpty)

Auction: Exceptional Motor Cars at Rétromobile
Porte de Versailles, Parc des Expositions, Hall 7 - 3, 75015 Paris, France

    Saturday, February 11th at 19.30

And finally what else could we end on for a Parisian sale preview than the 1973 Citroen DS 23 IE Cabriolet at EURO 100.000 - 140.000? Quintessentially Gallic, it’s one of the last ‘Décapotables’ built and one of the rarest with its DS 23IE underpinnings and desirable 141 bhp fuel-injected motor. Originally ordered from coachbuilders Henri Chapron by an eminent Parisian over thirty years ago, the car looks as modern now as it did then.

Linky doesn't work for me - redirects to localhost:1026/clear.cgi?

There were only 1600-odd DS Decapotables made. Of those, only 800-odd were made by Chapron. Intending the DS Decap to be a disposable toy for celebrities, Chapron spent almost no time on weather proofing - I believe parts of the chassis were actually unpainted. So few of them survive.

The guy who owns this 1961 "Le Caddy" wants much more than €140000 for his.

Isn't there a Décapotable’ somewhere in Dublin? (not a Chapron I'd say). I seem to remember a profile of it in the Irish Times motoring supplement a couple of years back...

Yep - in Clontarf. There's also a unique RHD 1960 ID19 Decapotable in Waterford. Unfortunately it is in pieces.

The Citroen dealership in Galway had a DS convertible in their showroom about 10 years ago, dark green metallic, I used to pass it going to work.

There is also one near me in Santry, never been close enough to know if it was genuine or a chop job.

Oya, DS20, would there be a chance to buy the pieces? We can form a syndicate... You know my interest in Citroëns... :)

Not a prayer, from what I know.

At lunchtime today I saw a DS driving along Fitzwilliam Street,
it looked like it had a WW number plate (in old style with silver letters)
or poss a French plate. The driver looked deep in thought and had
a big mop of hair in case he sees this ;). Anyway, it got me wondering
do they all come in those light bronzy/greeney metallic colours or are there any, in Ireland, with modern paint jobs? I wouldn't mind seeing one in red, yellow, white or orange...

Mostly they're black, grey or some shade of white. The early cars were sold in some pretty special pastels.

Those coloured ones look cool. The design is still very contemporary but some of the cars I've seen really look their age after years of languishing. I'd love to see one without the two-tone and with a Ferrari-style red all over with maybe a set of tasteful alloy wheels. I suppose it might be considered sacrilegious in some circles but I'd be keen to find out if anyone has ever undertaken such a modernizing/light customization project on one.

Bought the paint for my D special- its a Vauxhall primrose yellow that came with HB Viva's and FD Victors (great cars). I might paint the roof white-don't know yet. Any way, it will be done by summer.

    Mental pics there ds20!
The blue one, third down looks very Marcos Mantula-esque.
The red seems to make them look much bigger while the black furry one just looks very...tactile
