Got a letter from sky about my free sky+160

    I "introduced" my brother to Sky when they had the offer to get a free upgrade to Sky+160 as a reward, and the letter arrived today saying it would go ahead. Anyone got any idea as to how long it takes?

    I currently have 2 LNBs, one pointing at 19.2, the other at 28.2, on an 80cm dish. I presume the one pointing at 28.2 will be replaced with a quad LNB, with an extra cable. Now, here's the fun part: I live in a converted cottage with walls that would require a thermonuclear device to make a hole. My current installation has both the terrestrial & sat cables going through a 2->1 connector in the attic, with the signal split at one of those sat+tv sockeds at the other end. Is there any way to use a 3->1 device and split them at the TV again?

    The only device that can do this is made by Johannson and is called a stacker/destacker. You may also have to buy a standard 40mm collar twin output lnb as the sky 160 comes with an lnb only suitable for a sky minidish

    Hmmm. Maybe I need a minidish as well as the old 80cm, which I can realign to 19.2 & hotbird. Are there any issues with putting a second dish onto a chimney, i.e. will the stucture take the 80cm + the minidish, or would this be too much in strong winds?

    I have a Sky minidish Quad LNB offset on arm on an 80cm dish pointed at 19.2E.
    It gives over 90% quality EVEN IN RAIN.

    I lived in a house like that once. The available entry routes are:

    * In alongside Sink drain pipe
    * Up under eves into roof space
    * through Door frame
    * Through window frame.

    I'd be inclined to examine cottage carefully with view to getting extra CT100 coaxes and even ditching the TV/Satellite diplexer. The stackers do exist, but can be troublesome.

    Examin all around your roof and drains etc. 50m cable is no problem. 100m or 250m can be done with a driver amp, so cable run need not go by an obvious route.

    You can even sheath the coax in hosepipe and run it IN the drainpipe up and out at a Washing Machine or Dishwasher connection!

    It was in the December magazine, and ended on Dec 31st.

    That sounds like what I want!

    Funny enough, I've routed all cabling through a little hole drilled under the soffit, and I used a 1/2" water pipe to route it up to the attic. Actually that's a misnomer: it's big enough for a water tank, a terrestrial amp, my wireless router, and a phone junction. I could squeeze a matchbox in there too, but it'd be a tight fit.
