Hi I'm Neil, long time drinker, fist time alcohol board poster ;)

I got wangled into organising a wine reception for a function in college and I was wondering if anyone can help me with a couple of things. It's a society ball so I doubt there are too many connoisseur amongst the group. It's basically going to be for the first hour of the night before the meal, we're going to have free wine for everyone. We're catering for around 150 people. So I'm looking for:

    (a) A decent, reasonably priced red, white and rose
    (b) Where is the best place to buy such a quantity (I reckon we'll need about 70 bottles)
    (c) Any shops i.e., Centras, Dunnes etc. that anyone knows of that would give us a discount if we agreed to put an ad for them on the tickets or something along those lines.
    (d) Any other info that may be of use!

The more this thing costs, the more the tickets for the ball are going to cost everyone so I really can't stress how cost effective this has to be! However, at the same time, it'd be pretty cool if the wine was also in some way decent.

    Thanking you for any advice.

I was in Tesco yesterday and they had a 25% off all wine offer so check whether that is still going

Definitely approach the local off licencse/centra/dunnes. I am sure you could come to some arrangement in terms of advertising on the night and tickets.. Could save ya a bundle

In terms of very cheap reds, Tesco's Vina Mara Rioja at €5.45 (with 5% off if you buy 6 or more) is actually quite palatable. Certainly the best I have seen at that price in Ireland.
