This is the start of the 3rd week since that poxy upgrade about 3 weekends ago and I am still getting dreadfull speeds and pings into the 100s after 5pm every evening, I thought this would have been sorted by now but still bad, Im blue in the face from telling eircom about it but they dont want to know, is it just me or is anyone else getting quarter of their speed every evening from about 5pm till nearly midnight?

From the times you mention (virtually exactly peak times) it sounds like some sort of contention/congestion.

Where do you get the ping spike?

I get the ping spike on the 2nd hop, during the daytime its grand but come 5 or 6pm its rotten and this goes on untill midnight every day without fail... this never happened before the upgrade and my friend who is 3 doors away from me on the same exchange doesnt get this problem at all.

I'm getting perfect pings and my upload speed is still at 310 as per usual, but my download speed is back down to 294kbps!! Come on ffs! It was back to 3mbps yesterday, but it's back to this snails pace again.

Never though I'd have an upload speed faster than my download speed. thanks ericom you pile of w@nk

Gonzo, have you tried simplifying your setup, like removing any routers or anything on your LAN? Have you visually checked lights on your modem/router to see that the connection is idle when you think it's idle? It sounds fairly plausible that the problem is at your end.

yeah my setup is very simple, just the netopia 3341 plugged directly into the socket, the traffic light seems to blink on and off but when i check nothing is actually downloading. perhaps my modem is getting faulty or else its just my old 4 year old computer but it is odd that things are perfect during the night and into the early afternoon.
