    Hi folks,

Can anyone help? Have just turned on my computer upstairs but the screen is blank - a sort of greenish colour. Can't see anything at all - what can I do?

First thing is to check that the cable from the monitor is connected properly to the PC.

Check the cables are tightly connected. If you can get a loan of another monitor try that to see if it works, and if you can get another PC try that with your monitor.

All connected ok - the tower seems very noisy as if its straining or something....another monitor or PC not really available to me - any other ideas?

If it sounds louder than normal then it's probably the PC not starting up properly (would it normally sound that loud as soon as you turn it on, but then quiten down once windows starts loading ?). Best guess is that something inside it has come a little bit loose, is it making any beeping noises when you switch it on ? If you're able to, the best thing to try would be to open it up and re-seat the graphics card and memory, and if that fails the CPU.

Well I tried another monitor and still nothing is being displayed....it does tend to be quite loud when running - when I switched it on all the normal stuff happened but the page for "select user" never appeared. stevenmu - I would try what you suggest if I knew how to do it!! Sorry I am a total computer dodo... Can you help beyond this?

Sounds like all hardware is intact and the system is booting and getting past the initial post. I am assuming your on XP when you talk about user selection. Does your PC get to the "loading" XP screen, the one with the XP symbol and the small loading bar mid-screen and then just turn all greenish after that? or do you ever see the loading page?

If so, then removing all unnessecary junk from the PC, joypads, cameras, printers, iPod dock, what have you, and start the PC with just mouse and keyboard while hitting...F8 (pretty sure)... then start in safe mode with no networking... report your findings!

Disconnected my ipod and started it up again and away it went!!
Is the ipod interfering with this in some way? Surely it shouldn't....
Just glad it's running again - alot of important stuff in there for my wedding - what a disaster that would be!!

Thanks to all for the help

Glad you got it sorted, it seems the iPod can cause that sometimes... never had it happen to me and I have no idea why it happens.
