i feel compelled to post this here, as its totally fan-****ing-tastic.

    http://www.game-warden.com/bsg/index06.htm

its a total conversion of Battlestar Galacita, using the Freespace 2 engine (although apart from some sounds, you'd never believe its such an old engine). as a huge fan of both series, i can't bloody wait for this. also, the site's a bit patchy atm, so just go to the forums for screens etc...

    here's the trailer

The freespace engine has aged fantastically. Astounding game all round. I think I'll try the mod.

freespace 2 is (maybe) considered abandonware, so you can get it at http://www.the-underdogs.org/, or im sure you could get it on ebay, if you want the full thing (video's and all)

that site is pretty sh.ite :p but that does seem like a very cool idea! as far as i remember that last offical BSG game was on the consoles and was terrible

The engine is holding up well because their using the freespace Source Code Project. The SCP has improved the graphics and other elements fairly dramatically.

The Alpha version of the BSG mod was leaked a while ago, so if you want to play it you can probably find it. As for Freespace 2, you can download it from a few sites easily enough, don't bother with the crappy underdogs version, the full game is far better. While you're at it try out The Babylon Project. It's a very good babylon 5 mod based on the freespace 2 engine that doesn't need freespace to play.

Completely off-topic: Oz, where the hell did you get your wonderful signature?

Got my hands on freespace2, thing is it does'nt bloody work. Ok its loaded, but keyboard and mouse response time is shockingly bad, 2-3 seconds.

Nevermind, apparently it did'nt like my desktop being over 1024 X 768.

Freespace 2. A space game never bettered.... Sigh.... I gave Freespace 1 & 2 to a mate, his brother stole it and took it to work with him. On a sodding cruise ship. I never saw them again :(

This is great news, love Battlestar Galactica and Freespace 2 is probably my favourite game. Those new graphics are quite lovely also.

I'm nearly hopping off my seat in joy and excitement!!!!!

Freespace is one of the best games ever, was just recently thinking of reinstalling it to play it again. BSG version is a match made in heaven.
But enough talk must download it!!!!

/is http://www.game-warden.com/bsg/index06.htm kinda borkrd? none of the links on it work

Umm... from reading above it seems a lot of people tried to run vanilla, stock FS2. Which is old and doesnt look all that hot.

You should be running Freespace2 Open, which is an upgrade based on the Open Source release of the engine release some years back:
    http://www.hard-light.net/

Goto the forums and get the SCP Launcher then goto the The FreeSpace Upgrade Project forum (also on Hard Light) and get the new model and texture packs.

The new Engine supports Environmental Mapping, Volumetric Nebula effects and so on. You can also get the full game with SCP and Upgrade Patchs from a Torrent (check Hard Light Forums), this is legit as the EULA of the original game permits sharing (with a friend!), the company/interested parties are all but gone and and the core engine is Open Source (and the models made by the community).

yeah have to do that yet.
The battlestar galactica version is going to be a stand alone game based on SCP and wont require Freespace at all. Am actually amazed that the Copyright owners (scifi channel??) havent got their legal team to pull the plug on it like happened the stargate sg1 mod for unreal 2004
