Moving to UK.. so many car options!

    Hi folks,

moving to the UK for a year or two so am looking at purchasing over there because:

    a) i only have an accent.
    b) cheap cars!
    c) cheap insurance!
    d) resale value when I get back here :)

I want to get a semi-decent car, around 2001-2003, upto 10k sterling that will hold its value when I bring it back here (can sell 6 months after I come back if I wish and still avoid VRT).
I have narrowed it down to a few so far in my limited searching, basically I'd like something pretty economical as petrol is hideously expensive everywhere at the moment, but would also like a bit of poke under the engine...

406 Coupe (2.0 petrol or the rare 2.2 HDi).. anywhere from 4,500 to 7000k for the diesel.
    Audi A4 1.9 TDi .. range from 8,995 to 10k
Toyota Corrolla T-Sport (haven't seen very many prices).

There are a few more options like a BMW 320d (probably just over budget) or a decent Bora or Passat.. but haven't looked at these yet... anyone any other ideas on something around that price range that will be solid/reliable yet a bit of power when pushed (quite a bit of motorway driving)?

    Cheers!
