Seeing in the dark .....

    I have some 4 legged animals that visit my garden every night to pick up food left out for them ..... they only turn up if it's completely dark and no external lights are on .....

    I would like to setup a Video camera - connected to my Pc via usb and be able to store the video or save still shots from same ....

    I dont want to spend a fortune on this and if possible, 'Maplins' would be very handy for me, to buy the hardware involved ...

    Any suggestions on what I need to get would be appreciated ....

    You could have a camera continuously recording and set up a sensor to trip the lights when the animal is in view. It would probably run but you'd find out what it was.

    Most Black and White home security cameras have Infra Red LED's to improve night vision. Feed it into a TV card.

    Infra Red LED are only short range though - big Infra Red lights are expensive - but most home cameras come with 17 m of cable so put the camera out the back near some food - 4 hour tape and VCR on slow means 8 hours to look through
