Ive had a problem lately where my PC intermittantly acts as if the CPU is under 100% load. It freezes for a couple of seconds and then returns to normal. My first impression was that a virus / spyware of some sort was using CPU time.

Upon looking again, it was not the CPU that was under pressure at all; in fact it never goes above 30% usage. To be sure, I ran every system scan under the sun, and they ALL came up clean.

When it takes a 3800+ 30 seconds to open messenger, you know theres something wrong. Sometimes the system does not recover from these stalls and all I can do is plug it out. It's not often that I am lost, but I genuinely have no clue as to what is causing this. The PC is top end everything and is only 3 months old.

Any help at all that could point me in the right direction would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance, Mike

Have a look in the system event logs directly after this happens. See if you see any red 'x' events that correspond to the slowdown.

Have you tested your hard drive. If not grab the relevant hard drive test tool from the manufacturers site. Sometimes a PC freezing for no apparrent reason can be down to the hard drive performing an error recovery.

if i was u i would do a system restore to the last time u remember it working properly

this means u will have to reinstall any software since the date of the restore but it will save u rooting around looking for the gazillion potential problems that ur thread will generate !!!
