has anyone got their hands on an intel mac? is it all a pile of hype or what. I want to get a new imac and the apple store has dropped the price of the "old" macs by 200 looks tempting and at least it will be compatible with my other older macs but is the intel so fast as to be irresistible.

Personally i reckon the 'speed' issue these days is less and less relevant unless you're heavily involved with very processor intensive tasks on a regular basis (photoshop, 3d, some games etc.).

I have a G5 imac (1.9g) and honestly it does everything i could wish for quickly, multi-tasks very well with 1.5gig of ram and is stable.

Shaving a split second of this task or that honestly isn't going to make a real world difference to me so i'm happy not to chase the endless upgrade demon.

I'm using a 17" intel iMac in work, and there's not a huge difference between it and the PowerPC one. For everyday tasks, you'd need to be comparing two machine next to each other to really notice a difference. I'd expect more of a change in the MacBooks though...
