Depends on your contract, but usually yes.

Most contracts ask that you conduct yourself properly as an employee of the company, while you represent the company, during working hours or otherwise.

This, I imagine is a very grey area.

But if your actions on a company sponsored night out infringed on the welfare, self-esteem etc of a fellow worker then the company has a "duty of care" to your fellow worker. Thefore for the protection of the fellow worker and company liability they MUST take action.

An apology and an agreement not to repeat this action would be the standard action for this type situation.

Secondly if the company suffered a direct loss, say through you smashing up chairs or even a loss of Income, say you giving a customer a serious amount of abuse, then I think they would also have reason to give you a roasting.

However, in my experience all of the above are ignored by most companies and they do nothing.

An incident happened in a former company before I started working there.

Basically there was an office in the South & North of Ireland.

You can guess what the fight was over!!!

Basically all hell broke loose, chairs were broken, damage to the hotel etc.

So further official parties were cancelled, indefinately.

It was never investigated further as they couldn't actually find out how it started. Then an email was sent around by the MD stating that it's never to be talked about again.
