Insurance or Applecare?

So I have an iBook and I want to make sure its well looked after in case anything happens to it. I know Apple have Applecare but it doesn't cover accidental damage and is quite expensive.

I've been thinking I could get it insured by an insurance company for significantly less, which would cover accidents/repairs/loss etc. I could get it insured under the house for pitance, but I'm concerned that if I do have to make a claim, the actual house insurance would rise - which isn't fair on my mother.

I'm not sure what is best really. Has anyone any input?

I added it to our home insurance. As mine is also a laptop I made sure it was covered outside the house aswell, cause I'm away in college most of the time, but I have heard that depending on the policy, sometimes it's not possible.. Good peace of mind to have it covered against accidental damage and theft, too!

I thought it was nuts to take out the Applecare myself, but maybe someone else can point out the benefits that I don't know of?

With the applecare you get tech support as well, otherwise your support runs out after 90 days, so if you have a problem and you ring back they will charge you E47 per issue just to answer your questions. Most of the tech support information is on their support website anyway.

You'll find answer for any questions in here or many forums in internet. AppleCare is good as extended warranty, anything that goes wrong will be repair by Apple. Insurance will basicly pay for a repair or in case the computer is completly dead they'll pay you whatever they calculate is worth at that moment.
If you don't have a history in smashing mobile phones, cameras and similar go for Applecare, otherwise insurance.
