Configuring UCD Connect in thunderbird

I am having a bit of bother configuring UCD Connect account to thunderbird email client for a project .

I was just wondering if anyone here had this problem before.

    Incoming :imap.ucd.ie

    Outgoing :mail.ucd.ie

It does set up but I just get some message from a mail administrator telling me I have successfully configured and that they will notify me when the changeover takes place (I am assuming the changeover referred to is from the @student.ucd.ie account to the @ucdconnect.ie accounts and this happened at the start of the year)

Anyone able to shed some light on this??

I also tried to set up vodafone mail on thunderbird but had no luck basically I need an imap mail account because GMail which I am currently using with thunderbird is pop and pop ports are blocked on college network.

I am posting in UCD forum aswell!!

    hey,

If you're on UCD campus and trying to connect to any external mail server (POP or IMAP) it will never work because of firewall restrictions. You can only access the UCD internal mail servers.

You have the two mail servers right. And the fact that you got the welcome message is a good sign. Not sure why it's not working for you tbh.

I know some accounts didn't migrate properly from pop to imap server, so prob best to go to computer services and get them to reset the account. That happened to a friend of mine.

But should be no problem using TB to access ucd mail. That's what I use.

The guy I talked to in computer services said that ucdconnect doesnt support thunderbird so I tried setting it up on my old @student.ucd.ie email which is still active however all I could access after setting that up was my trash and not the inbox  Even when I right click on the account and click properties it shows that I am using x% of my quota for the account so I have no idea what the problem is.

well as i said i use thunderbird to access my ucd imap account and it works fine. Having said that, I'm on the staff server so prehaps student server is set up differently.

I'll check with my friend and see how she got outlook configured to access her ucdconnect account. If that worked, so should thunderbird.

ya studentmail.ucd.ie using my @student.ucd.ie email works for me now and it contains all the messages that come into my ucdconnect account.Ill check tmoro to see if its working in ucd as im not in college right now

    CHEERS :D

well if it works outside of campus it will def work on campus.

Just note that when at home you might have to use your isp's smtp server as UCD has anti spam measures in place that might prevent u connecting to mail.ucd.ie from a non-ucd ip address.

should work if u chance ur address to ucdconnect.ie. Email address does not affect the other settings.

    BTW is your name David?

Hey. I was fooling around trying to set up my ucdconnect email account with thunderbird, and it wasn't connecting to my account. But I turned on SSL encryption, just fooling around, and clicked Subscribe in the dropdown menu for the ucdconnect IMAP account. It gave me a whole list of folders I didn't recognise. So I asked it to select them all, and Thunderbird started downloading a whole bunch of emails from ucd that aren't from my account. Stuff about a Christmas party, and about bookings for holidays and all sorts of things. Loads of different names, as if all of them were from different people working inside UCD.

So I removed the email account, and deleted the messages.

I was using imap.ucd.ie for the incoming mail server. Surely this shouldn't be possible?

Besides which, OP, if you're having difficulty setting up your Vodafone account use these settings:

    Vodafone Mail

    Frequently Asked Questions

What are the POP settings for Vodafone Mail?
    Outgoing mail server: mail.vodafone.ie
    Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.vodafone.ie
    Incoming mail server (IMAP): imap.vodafone.ie
