Here is a place for the UFC people to talk about UFC 57 without worrying about annoying anyone.

Randy goes out with a wonderful reputation and the status of a true warrior.

Chuck can finally be acknowledged as a true champion.

Now the Babalu fight should be animal...

Sad for Randy, fair play to Chuck. Sorry Randy won't be back, but what else is there for him to do?

That was emotional. Fair play to Randy. I agree with him retiring. He's a true champion.

I was hoping RAndy would really challenge Chuck so I could see what he's made of. I havent seen all of chucks bouts but i thought randy would pose a realy threat to Chuck.

Tactically speaking they both seemed to have good game plans. Randy applied pressure and kept pressure on while chuck moved about and kept his distance. I think Randy was waiting to counter off Chucks kick but Chuck only kicked once (afaik).

Randy is a good ambassador to the sport and is held in high regard by most so will probably end up being a commentator or something. That guy that hosts with Joe ROgan pisses me off(goldberg/goldsmith i think his name is)

Id still like to see Chuck challenged. I think if it had of went to the ground Randy would have posed more of a threat but it wasnt to be.

    im off to bed :v:

Unfortunate it didn't last past the second round Although I think the result was inevitable.

Pretty clever tactics on Liddell's part to keep his distance and constantly move about as he did. I don't think Randy's reach is as big as Liddell's (Correct me if I'm wrong) so this was naturally going to pay dividends.

Probably wise of Couture to call it a day, although the win would have made it a nicer send off.

Shame for Randy but I think he should just retire from the UFC and head off to Pride for 2 last fights.

    Randy vs. Yoshida
    and
    Randy vs. Wand.

He'd make a pretty penny (real money not UFC small change) and go out in style. He's good enough not to get messed up by either. I couldnt see Wanderlei knocking him out.

Was anyone else pissed off at bravos slow moving coverage of the event? It took one whole hour to show the Riggs - Diaz fight, the whole show was just so cluttered up with long ad breaks and way way OTT hype for the Liddell - Couture fight (greatest fight in the history of the UFC yada yada yada...Paris Hilton in the house blah blah blah...)

Definately watching the downloaded version next time!!

Gonna have to disagree with ya colum.

If Chuck could knock Randy out twice in a row, then The Axe Murderer is definitely capable of the same thing, probably even more so than Chuck!

    I disagree Ciaran (off course I do ;) )

I think Wand has been found lacking against solid boxers. I think Chuck has better hands than Wanderlei and its Chuck's hands that beat Randy. I think Randy could perhaps match Wanderlei's hands and with his clinch he could neutralise Wand's kicks and knees. I know the lack of a fence makes a big difference but still I'd put money on couture...

Silva is an aggressive and linear fighter. While Chuck moves in circles mostly,

Silva's linearity and aggresiveness is what Randy needs to beat him.

I'm not a man for triangle theory but I'd assume Silva could beat both Randy and Liddell.

Whatever way you want to look at it, Chucks victory was far more clever than people are giving him credit for. He moved a lot as has already been mentioned, constantly looking for the counter punch. Randy went for the one take down in the first, which Chuck pretty much stood right up from.

Here is where Randy played clever, i have no doubt that he could see the blood flowing down Chucks back from his face and didn't know if his nose was cut of just bleeding, so he kept it hidden from Big Johns views, moving just enough to make sure they were not seperated ( you can see Chuck looking to Bjg John gesturing for the break up ). Good game plan, Randy couldn't know the extent of the cut or the damage, just the amount of blood, hid the fact until the bell when it could be fixed up, as opposed to risking a doctor stoppage.

The second round went on the same way, Chuck on the back foot from a few punches, always taking that step back, UNTIL, Randy feints for a take down and throws a bomb, if you can watch the fight then watch where the fist lands, right where Liddells jaw would have been IF HE TOOK THE STEP BACK.

Instead, Chuck seemed confident to let the takedown happen, or just take whatever shot was coming from the feint and throw a bomb of his own which is all it took.

I had said to a friend of mine that the loser would make the first mistake and that just happened to be Randy.

All in all, it was pretty sad when he retired, but the test of the man was afterwards, taking photos and signing autographs with fans.

There is a reason why TUF 1 made the UFC grow to the point it did.

Also, was it jsut me or did Van Arsdale give up pretty much the second Babalu took his back?????

His hand seemed to be raised and ready to tap before Babalu got that choke fully sunk in.

Couldn't have said it better myself. It was so depressing watching him go out like that though. Now that he has retired we should leave the 'he could beat so and so but not so and so' let us just remember the fights he did have.

One of my favourite Randy moments was when Tito took the fight with him thinking it would be an easy way to keep his belt without fighting Chuck, and he got absolutely demolished. He schooled him in every respect for 25 minutes and then spanked his ass. What a fight.

I don't think we would ever have seen him go out on a lose. I think we all feel that had he won he would have defended it, at least once.

cyberghost - what's your point? we aren't allowed to choose between the two? i'd rather see the highlights tbh.

Really? I thought people are more interested to view a full fight with commentaries and fight sounds instead of a fight with music.

Just wanted good for you guys :)
