    Hello,

I'm a total novice and have just started at the driving range. Intending to get professional lessons shortly.

Do I need to be a member of a Glof Club to get a HC?

And how many games do I need to Play?

If I decide to join another club next year do I have to start all over again?

    All advice appreciated!

Lexus, you don't need to be a member of a club to get a lesson but you do to get a Handicap, if you're not sure about spending so mmuch on the game yet, then there are some good courses around that offer a relatively inexpensive fee of about €400 but you have to pay a green fee every time you go out, elmgreen and hollystown are two examples. some driving ranges have pros that can help you out if you want to get a lesson before joining a club.
when you join a club you will have to play three full rounds with your cards for each round (for the sake or argument) being marked and signed by a member.
once you have a (gui)CONGU membership you can switch clubs without needing to reapply for your handicap.
as long as you don't let it lapse. i.e. if your a member in club A in 2000 and move to club B in 2001 you can transfer details, however if you lapse your membership and then go back ssomewhere else you will need to reapply fo ra handicap. (your fee for each year contains a small levy for registration with the GUI which if you lapse will not be continued)
