Morocco is a fantastic country, and in answer to your question, not at all expensive. Food and drink are a set price, but apart from that, haggle, haggle, haggle! You will end up enjoying it. Are you going on a sun holiday or travelling around? If travelling, only spend 1-2 days in Casablanca and visit the Hasan second mosque...it is quite simply the most beautiful building I have ever been in, and one of the few mosques in the world that non-muslims can enter. The capital Rabat is fine, but not unmissable, but Fes is fantastic. The medina in Fes is my number 1 must do/must see place in Morocco. You will never forget it, it is like stepping back a couple of thousand years in time.

Another option would be to fly into Marrakesh, lively, touristy, fun, but again 1-2 days will do you, and head south to Essaouira, a hippy haven on the coast. Really cool town, full of artists and crafts men. Only a couple of hours from Marr on a good road.

Morroco is full of wonderful people, I would love to be going back.I am jealous.

yeah i really enjoyed morocco too, i was in tetuan and tanger for a few days, just backpackn around. people were warning me about all sorts of stuff, but i had a great time. some french would be helpful, and you have to have shawarma...yum. like sadie said, quite cheap. i really liked it, id definately go back. be prepared to be offered all sorts of drugs tho cos you'll look like a tourist. obv this isnt the case everywhere tho. have fun x

Not sure about the Hassan II mosque being one of a few you can enter. I've been in many in Iran, Morocco, Uzbekistan, Turkey etc. They're generally very welcoming. It is magnificent though and well worth a visit. Marrakech and FEz are wild untamed places and aprt form the diesel fumes of noisy motors you'll think you've travelled back to the medeaval ages. Casablanca and Rabat are a nice change form that, sporting wide tree lined avenues and buildings in the European style and the odd catholic cathedral. Tangiers I didn't spend much time in but seems to have a fascinating old town and spectacular views over the ocean.

People are more used to tourists so not as wildly hospitable as some other Islamic countries but certainly nice.

Food was not the best. Had one decent meal but the restaurants were all interesting and I enjoyed the peppermint tea :)

I have some photos of Morocco at the following address btw
