Id love to know how this sold. It looks like no one is giving them a second chance after the Oxegen debacle and oh yeh the second album being terrible. Ill be at Clap Your Hands Say Yeah instead.

was a good gig in fairness

It was better than good, they're well and truly back on form. I love the way they actually entertain and but on a proper show. You can't help but enjoy a Darkness gig (unless you've got your head shoved so far up your arse that you've forgotten what a sense of humour is)

And what Oxegen debacle? They were left with a headline spot at short notice, which they filled pretty bloody well considering they only had one album's worth of material

Almost sold out from what I could see and I was front row centre

Do you make this **** up? What Oxegen debacle, I think to replace David Bowie and give the crowd 2hrs worth of fantastic Sunday night entertainment was amazing, they played the best ive ever seen them and ive seen them 3 times now and id go see them 3 more. Second, the album wasnt **** by any stretch of the imagination, it was just a little more experimental (thats what happens when a band gets creative control).....and the fact that the media decided the Darkness were no longer their clowns and wanted to plug the next 'Idol'. I still saw photographers at the front last night though!

That doesnt even deserve a remark.

An amazing concert by an amazing band, i think they were brilliant.

One of my favorite parts of the evening though came rather early on, when the support band The Ark were 5 minutes into their set or something and the lead singer kicked back the speaker (a speaker which took 3 guys to lift up from the ground) and it landed on one of the security guys heads! lol just taught that was priceless, the same guy had burst a young kids balloon just 2 minutes previous, and was giving everyone a menacing look!

Anyone get a pic of Justin sailing above everyone's heads in the giant tits?! Fantastic rock 'n' roll night :)

Have to say I was surprised at how good they were (hadn't seen them live before). I was worried that the Point would be half empty, but while the crowd was a bit thin near the back, it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I'd feared. As stated earlier, the band put on a proper show, too, and you've got to admire having the balls to open the set floating over the crowd on a giant pair of knockers! lol Took a few pics with the camera on my phone but I don't expect them to turn out that well.

Great lights, good sound and theatrics a-plenty. Talk of their demise is greatly exaggerated, I hope.

I don't want to steal photos on anyone so I'm linking the Darkness Official Forum where shots taken from the balconies in the point are at..

No I didnt make it up. "Their Oxegen finale was soggy and shallow" - The BBC.

I had a huge post going on about why I thought it was a terrible gig but Im in no mood to get into an internet fight as its obvious Im not about to change your mind. So the short version is that I saw them do a 50 minute gig which was the entire first album which was great and then they did a 100 minute show at oxegen with maybe five additional songs. It was a very drawn out performance and not at all tight and polished like their earlier ones.

Im glad that the point gig was good. Id like to think they are back on track because I was a fan.

Even if you thought the Oxygen gig was bad, you don't think they deserve credit for outstanding work under extraordinary circumstances?
    Pics are deadly btw.

Their Oxegen gig was awful. The sound was dire and Justin Hawkins was left onstage overcompensating for the lack of material that's expected out of a main stage headliner.

Saying that, their Vicar Street gig the year before was fantastic, so perhaps they transfer better indoors. I didn't see them yesterday but I'm glad to hear they put on a good show.

    How is that... offending?

I'm not a big The Darkness fan but god, they really know how to put on a show. It was great! Cant say the same for the support though. I missed The Ark, but Juliette and the Licks were terrible.

I was late coming in and missed the first song and a half. Whats this picture of Justin flying in a pair of boobs?! :v: Great show!

The atmosphere kinda sagged in the middle but finished well. I didn't really appreciate the bouncing love-handles , and I've never seen so many kids at a gig (was afraid of trampling over them) but great show! You know you've made it when you can fly over the audience whilst performing your guitar solo!

It's the first gig I've seen without a pit in ages. Dam I hate those pits. Always the weird people that get in (or D4 eegits - speaking of which, were knocking over bins on grafton street at 3am this morning only to apologise immediatly when confronted by my mates... eegits). So we were able to squeeze up near the front with only the odd bouncer to annoy us.

As for Oxegen, I don't understand why so many people hated that gig. It's about 50-50 for who loved/hated it. I thought the sound was grand and the performance good aswell. I suppose David Bowie lovers will never be pleased with an 80's style self-depricating metal cabaret act. But what an act!

Man, those photos look amazing.. Sooo pissed off I didn't go. Did they play "Physical Sex" anyone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,382 ✭✭✭Motley Crue

dont think they played physical sex

its was incendiary, incredible amazing! There was so much imagination in the show, the flying boobs, the 2001 space odessey skit, the phantom of the opera organ which was revealed only at the end. Also the songs on the second album translated well in a live setting. People think they have no substance just because they put a bit of theatricality, flamboyancy and fun back into rock. But the songs themselves have substance, this much was evident when they played track 5 which segued into track 10 off the second album. Whats more they sounded like very well written songs, if one of my friends had written them id be impressed. Id give it 12/10.
