Aerial Boosters?

    Hey All,

Total n00b question for you guys, but i live in an apartment and there is a TV jack. Bad thing is the only channels we can get are RTE/TV3/TnaG. There isnt a hope we can get a Loft Aerial like the one we use at home to get BBC/UTV/C4.

Is there an Aerial booster or something I could use (instead of the coax to the wall) to pick up all 8 stations (BBC/UTV/C4/RTE/TV3/TnaG).

Cheers and apologies if it was asked before :)

Not a hope. You will have to either get

    1) A satellite system ($kybox and UK FTV card needed for Ch 4/5)
    2) A proper outside aerial (you dont say where in Ireland your apartment is ?)
    3) A cable connection or
    4) An MMDS sub

Sky/Cable isnt really an option at the minute, I'm a student so it's only a 9 month lease :p

I live in Maynooth Town, Co. Kildare.

Cheers for the info though ;)

You dont need to subscribe to $ky

A Free to Air satellite system would get all the main UK channels except Channels 4 and 5

Unless youre up to installing the dish yourself it could work out quite expensive though given that youre only there for 9 months

You need at least a 25 foot mast on your roof and a decent wideband UHF aerial/masthead amp to get the UK analogue channels here. None of the apartment complexes in the town are likely to like you doing that ;)

(also in Maynooth, but I live here permanently unfortunately :p )

    a decent wideband UHF aerial
Surely a grouped aerial would be better ?

Possibly, but for some reason I seem to remember a grouped one not being suitable... It was a long time ago, though, so you're probably right.
