Final table all-in on first hand

Anyone else notice this phenomenon. A very high percentage of final table first hands have an all-in. I've no stats on this but I'm always waiting for it to happen. Bubblers probably never see this, unless they are hanging around and have not completed their bad beat story. :)

At this year's WSOP they took an age to get to the money (playing hand for hand) but as soon as the remaing players knew they were in the money they started chucking their chips about.

I guess its because there are so many players just trying to hang in till they get to the final table, once they get there they are often very shortstacked and have to make a move with any two cards.

It is a psychological thing as much as anything, as many players feel that reaching the money is the achievement of an important goal, and going out 9th, 8th, 7th or 6th is of lesser importance than not going out 10th. I have often limped into the money and then thrown caution to the wind, pushing all-in during the first orbit on the final table. Usually because by that stage I was deep in the red zone!

A foolish way to look at things, as I know I should have been playing to win and not just make the money - and in the sober light of day I must look back and realise that simply making my entry back or doubling it just doesn't really matter that much to me, or would to most of us!

Sometimes after taking a beat/bad play to leave you short stacked and near the money clinging on is your only option (unless you hit a huge hand of course). And then once in the money and 9-7 paying the same money or very little difference you may aswell and try to double through, and if you do you may now be able to start to play some cards.
