So my new laptop (Dell Inspiron 1300 with Wifi capabilities and running on XP SP2) has arrived along with a Belkin F5d7632 router.

My question is - will I be able to hook up both the 1300 and my somewhat geriatric five year old 8100 desktop (running Me and very cable dependent) to the Belkin as well as the ethernet for the broadband? Or will I have to get the desktop a wireless card.

Once again, sorry if it's a really obvious question. Haven't actually seen the Belkin or the 1300 in the flesh yet coz they're at home and I'm in work!

    Ta very much!!

    Sesheta:D

well that router can handle 4 wirelwss devices and also has 4 ethernet ports on it.
so you can hook up with wireless on your new laptop
and use an ethernet cable from your other machine

Well you should be able to either cable it up to the router or get maybe a wireless USB adaptor for the old desktop.

    One quick google later....

Yea router has wired ports (4) as well as wireless so you can connect desktop to it using ethernet cable and laptop using wireless.

(Assuming the 8100 had a network card installed in it)

Feckers beat me to it ^

    :p

OP, If you really want to be less cable dependent with the desktop, grab something like a truemobile 1450 from Dell (wireless adapter) or go to http://www.komplett.ie and have a look at PCI options.

    Thanks for the advice!

I would like to go fully wireless eventually and will probably investigate the pci options then but just wanted to get things hooked up in the meantime!

Also wanted to know (and this really is a dumb question coz I should have checked ages ago before ordering it!) but will it work with Ripwave (in so far as anything works with Ripwave :D ) I've never been altogether clear on the whole definitions thing when talking about ADSL and ethernet.:o

    Thanks again!

AFAIK you can just use the wireless part of the belkin with the ripwave modem yokey.
