Oh, and yes, yes it does. Click here for the link to the Linux server. Its only 7.77MB big :)

You can play games, Star force does nothing damaging. Tbh you probably had it already. What it does is try to make it hard to play without the CD but Nocds are better than it ever will be.

Whats annoying is this is a free game why the fook does it need starforce. But there are loads of Demos that also have it.

    thanks Syco

Heh. If you think a no-cd works, think again. Not only will you have to physically disconnect your CD/DVD drives, but you'll have to load a few programs, BEFORE you can even try to run the game. For Trackmania, a NO-CD doesn't yet exist.

Oh, and I didn't already have it. I know, as I had to reinstall Windows minutes beforehand... on a totally unrelated issue. Nothing to do with Trackmaina what so ever

Oh they do, there is no real evidence of people having issues with starforce, mainly its warez monkeys scared by it. I dont like it as it doesnt ask to be installed and doesnt come with an uninstaller. But i have it about 18 months now and never had an issue with it my dvd drives or my virtual drives. A game my kids play demands it to be there it has no effect on the pc whatsoever.

    www.star-force.com has an uninstaller.

This would have to be pretty special to stop me driving GTR and GTL - anyone driving it with pedals and a force feedback wheel? If so, any good?

Looks a bit too arcady to me but sure I'll give it a bash this weekend for the craic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

Yeah, trackmania is by no means a racing simulator :)
    Its 100% arcadey fun.

edit: what is a UDP connection?
it said i've reverted to TCP which is supposedly inferior...then something about a firewall

/stabs the internet with a pointy poker

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

UDP = user datagram protocol - a connectionless protocol. It should be faster for online gaming because it has less overheads than TCP, but if your connection is flakey it is unreliable.

You might need to open a port on your firewall/router.

    bah getting 90k on a 3meg connection :(

whats the game like to play with a keyboard and mouse?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,285 ✭✭✭Smellyirishman

You only use the direction keys on your keyboard.... and the delete button every 10 seconds. No issues with the controls at all.

These games are absolutly fantastic, hopefully this free version will attract more deserved attention to thier other games.

Anyone have any ideas what this is?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,346 ✭✭✭Rev Hellfire

If it's in the full game, then it needs to be in this free version and demos aswell, otherwise the warez monkeys can compare the executables to make their no-cd cracks. Of course that doesn't actually stop them, but it makes it alot harder.

And the full games use a cd key to play online a proven system that works but still they worry about the cd....../me shrugs.

Havent played this game yet (internet at home is down, posting from uni).

But on the topic of starforce, as for stopping noCD's (which its desgined for) its useless, its just as easy to work around as secuROM or any of the other methods, and whats worse is 1 method gets past ALL starforce games without fail, and no, you dont even have to unplug your CD rom's. As for it doing no damage, a guy in Australia who runs as series of net cafe's got a load of new games for his business, and it ended up doing hardware damage to nearly 1 in 8 PC's because some of the games had starforce, ended up causing several thousand pounds worth of damage, starforce paid for all damages and some compensation too post haste, if it truely didnt damage your PC, why would they just throw thousands of pounds at this guy? A link to the story was posted on this forum about 6months ago, if someone is willing to dig it up, its worth a read.

interesting, yeah....someone dig it out... :)
